I think he should have been allowed to break the record. It would have been a great boost for his career. Managers should invest in their players individual success. Someone allowed Messi to create the record. If Messi was removed after the 3rd or 4th goal, he wouldn't have created the record. The excuse of chasing a title would always be there but when your player is at the brink of doing something great, you just have to let it happen.
FYI, I am not a Messi hater.

No, that is not true. However, I have noticed coaches subbing players that score up to 4 or 5 goals, if a penalty is awarded they won't give it to the player with 5 goals. I don't know if there is a hidden rule that frown upon double hattrick on regular matches.
