Hyundai Motor Company (HMC), world’s fourth largest automobile manufacturer, has donated two units of hi-tech ultra modern mobile clinics to two of Nigeria’s foremost health institutions, the Abuja National Hospital and University of Abuja Teaching Hospital.

Receiving the donations on behalf of these institutions, Prof. Onyebuchi Chukwu, Honourable Minister of Health, said in his goodwill message that the vehicles are coming at an auspicious moment when the country needed to enhance its national disaster management system.

He described the mobile clinics as ‘Purpose built vehicles’ that should be used strictly for the purpose they are meant, warning that government would not hesitate to frown at any flagrant exploitation of the mobile clinics.

Also in his remarks, Ambassador Olugbenga Ashiru, Honourable Minister of Foreign Affairs, who was represented by Prince Debo Adeniyi in the ministry, applauded the magnanimity of Hyundai Motor Company and Korea Foundation for International Healthcare, saying that the Federal Republic of South Korea and Nigeria had enjoyed steady and purposeful relationship over the years.

Similarly, Mr. Linus Awute, permanent secretary, Ministry of Health applauded the donation of the modern Hyundai Mobile Clinics, which he said are fundamental to the improvement of healthcare delivery and the empowerment of health officers currently numbering 2000 since the inauguration of National Emergency Service two years ago.

Represented by Dr. Folake Majekodunmi, director special project in the ministry, Mr. Awute said the collaboration between Nigeria and Republic of South Korea would aside from strengthening the relations of both countries also add value the quality of healthcare. His Excellency, Mr. Park Young-Kuk, Ambassador of the Republic of Korea while relieving his speech at the occasion described Nigeria as one of her most important African partners in trade, energy and development cooperation.
He said Korea also collaborates with Nigeria through KOICA, (Korea Development Agency) in health related matters, education and good governance – an initiative he said was in line with MDGs (millennium Development Goals).

Meanwhile, Mr. Deugyong Cha, Deputy General Manager, Africa regional headquarters, Hyundai Motor Company said the mobile clinics are part of 10 mobile clinics the automaker earlier said it would donate to African nations this year in line with Hyundai ‘Moving the World Together’ Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative.
