The 2023 presidential election in Nigeria threw up some surprises with the candidate of the Labour Party Peter Obi winning a whopping 12 states in the exercise same number as his more illustrious opponents, Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party and the eventual winner Bola Tinubu who contested on the platform of the All Progressives Congress.

Tinubu polled 8,794,726 votes to win the 2023 presidential election while Atiku trailed with a total of 6,984,520 votes. But Obi’s total of 6,101,533 votes in 12 states remains a huge surprise.

Labour Party entered the race without any political offices but ended the contest with six Senators-elect and 34 House of Representatives members-elect and there were strong indications the party could nick a few Governorship seats after last Saturday’s exercise.

Obi won in Edo, Cross River, Delta, Lagos, FCT, Plateau, Imo, Ebonyi, Nasarawa, Anambra, Abia and Enugu states and there were feelings the Labour Party candidates in the governorship and house of assembly could benefit greatly from the success of the party at the presidential polls.

It was believed that the party particularly had strong chances in Enugu, Abia, Ebonyi, Cross River, Lagos and clear the seats in the Imo State Assembly but as of the time of filing this report, the party had yet to officially win any state.

Peter Obi won 341,886 votes in Delta State in the presidential election but the Obidients Movement abandoned the party candidate Kennedy Pela who came a distant third with paltry 48,047 votes in the governorship election won by Sheriff Oborevwori of the PDP who 360,234.

Hmmm
OP, here is my small contribution to your post. I'm writing based on my little and shallow knowledge of politics.
Now, I have observed and noticed that the OBIDIENTs are not supporters of Labour Party as erroneously conceived by many. OBIDIENTs are PETER OBI's organic supporters. And this doesn't mean that any Tom, Dick and Harry who contests under labor party should be voted in. Any love shown to Labor Party by supporters emanates from the soft spot People have for OBI, and you'll all agree with me that prior to this election, nobody ever believed that Labor Party would go this far.
In conclusion, OBIDIENTS did not abandon the party, it looks so because Peter OBI isn't the one contesting in all the positions

Mad people everywhere

OBIdients means one thing " those who believe in the political ideology of His Excellency Peter Obi"... Just like the Rastafarians believe in Ras Tafari, that's Haile Selessaie, former emperor of Ethiopia.

I don't know why people are attaching Obidients to every dick tom and harry running under Labour party. Let me tell you many criminals and opportunists were also running on Labour Party platform across many states...we know them
This explains why many people were at home yesterday. Peter Obi was not on the ballot...had it been he was on the ballot...we would have given him millions of votes than the one we gave him on 25th February.

Peace✌️

Obidients did not abandon LP at the gubernatorial elections. The aforementioned candidates didn't have the guile like Obi during the presidential campaign.

Most of the candidates were relying solely on Peter Obi's 'grace' rather than working things out for themselves.

Also, these states are strongholds to the incumbent party and the party before it. So they rallied around to make sure that LP don't win, by using their known methods of thuggery, rigging, voters suppression, election violence, and tribalism. You can see what happened in lagos and rivers.

Please stop dropping false narratives, try to look at somethings critically.
