Soludo Signs MOU To Train 20,000 Youths, Says Knowledge & Skills Is Power by SReporters: 5:09pm On Mar 21, 2023
Prof. Chukwuma Charles Soludo, the Governor of Anambra State, has asserted that knowledge and skills are enduring forms of power.

He further stated that the power of knowledge and skills transcends space and time and is not constrained by any boundaries because it follows an individual anywhere he or she goes.

The statement was made by the Governor at the Anambra Digital Tribe MOU signing to train 20,000 youths and launch of the Anambra State Government Solution Innovation District, which was held at Prof. Dora Akunyili Women Development Centre in Awka.

"The demand for knowledge and skills is global. The certificate you possess doesn't really matter to the world. They are more interested in your mental capacity and your manual dexterity. This is the game-changing moment, and this is my story "said Soludo.

"The desire to succeed and the desire to add value are the first requirements for success. Your knowledge and abilities will support you in achieving this. Being a Governor or President is temporary power, and after your tenure, the world continues. However, when you have knowledge and skills, you have power that lasts a lifetime.

"Those who seek knowledge and skills have a place in the future. We are continuing today with our plan to retake control of our state and put it back on the right course. To the 0.01% of our population who are criminals and cannot define who we are, we are sending a message. The 99% of ndi anambra are renowned for their entrepreneurship, diligence, fortitude, and inventiveness.

The future starts today! Although, the past few days have been quite busy, I must thank you all for coming, especially our students and youth. I see the brand-new Anambra of our dream when I look into your faces.

"I appreciate Ms. Chinwe Okoye, Special Adviser on Innovation and Business Incubation, for organizing this program, as well as Microsoft and Wootlab Foundation for supporting Anambra. I think that this alliance will serve as the cornerstone of our future," Soludo stated.

The transition of Anambra from commerce; a largely informal to a formal economy, particularly in the area of digital skills, has started, according to Governor Soludo. He explained that in order to democratize digital skills, 10,000 youths will receive training each year. The goal is to spread the word to all primary and secondary schools, universities, Churches, and communities.

According to Governor Soludo, ndi Anambra will start accessing high speed internet. He believes that the launching of the Solution Innovation District would bring the world to Anambra and allow them to export their skills to the rest of the world.

"We have a one youth, two skills agenda that is ongoing, and we've added this innovation program. Any participant who performs exceptionally well in one of these programs will receive significant support from the government.

"Knowledge has no boundaries! In the end, what you have to offer will matter more than your credentials! The stories must be revised. Freebies are not common among Ndi Anambra, "Soludo says.

Soludo urged those living in the bush to participate in the state's ongoing programs. He reaffirmed the government's commitment to helping young people reach their God-given potential.

The Governor also called on the kind-hearted people of ndi Anambra to help the State Government establish innovation hubs in their localities.

Earlier in her opening remarks, Mrs. Chinwe Okoli, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Innovation and Business Incubation, welcomed Microsoft and Wootlab foundation as official partners of the State Government and thanked Governor Soludo for launching the Solution Innovation District.

"This journey aims to liberate the Anambra people's creativity and is consistent with the Governor overnor's goal of making Anambra State a livable and prosperous homeland.

"The Solution Innovation District was established in Anambra State to foster and promote skill innovation, including that of digital skills. It will be a community of entrepreneurs, innovators, investors, and clever artisans who will all work together to find solutions to issues in Anambra, Nigeria, and around the world.

"The SID will be the hub for creative solutions, with a target of annually training 10,000 youths in digital skills, though we are starting with 20,000 today. Large opportunities exist for those with digital skills "She stated.

According to the Special Adviser, the SID's components include business innovation, digital skills, and the desire to revive businesses on Facebook, Twitter, and WhatsApp while producing thousands of millionaires each year.

She also mentioned SMEs acceleration from Onitsha to Awka to Nnewi, will help small business owners leverage on technology and reach more markets, make more money, hire more people, and create jobs.

According to her, the angel investors will band together to support Governor's Soludo agenda, consolidate on support initiatives that can take place in communities, churches, and schools, and publish guidelines on how it can be done.

"The Governor wants to promote your entrepreneurial, digital, and innovative skills. Keep in mind that he promised to be your chief marketer, and have faith that he will lead you into the world.

"Imagine an entire district; the Solution Innovation District will include tech companies that support innovation and skills as well as incubators, accelerators, and other businesses.

"Anambra has a larger population of youth! The percentage of people under 45 is over 50%, and youth unemployment is high. This is one of the ways that young people can get jobs, and having digital skill is a trend everywhere. The Governor wants to add 100,000 jobs a year, which could quickly put an end to insecurity "she concluded.

For Mr. Patrick Agha Mba, the Commissioner for Youth, recalled that Governor Soludo had launched the one youth, two skills program in October 2022 as a pilot phase of his agenda and reported that the program was progressing well.

He emphasized that the opportunities that lie in digital skills are overwhelming and thanked the Governor for appointing Mrs. Chinwe Okoli as his Special Adviser on Innovation and Business Incubation. He maintained that the task of youth empowerment is a huge task.

The Commissioner called on all stakeholders to participate in the program and expressed satisfaction that Anambra State is not falling behind in terms of digital literacy. He came to the conclusion that the goal is to provide more jobs and quality jobs.

On his part, The Representative for Microsoft Country Manager for Nigeria and Ghana, Olatomiwa Williams, reassured Governor Soludo that this was a good step in the right direction, pointing out how he benefitted immensely in a similar program set up in 2008 by the Ekiti State Government.

In addition, Chioma Okoro, CEO of the Wootlab Foundation, who asserted that the fourth industrial revolution has already begun, emphasized how the skill sets needed for contemporary jobs are also evolving. She praised Microsoft for their dedication and provision of the resources necessary to ensure the success of the Solution Innovation District in Anambra.
