1. A university is a place of higher education where individuals gain knowledge and skills that can be used to gain a better advantage in any chosen profession. It's a cynosure for ideas from different perspectives, fused into one place so that everything taught and learned will be robust for profits, sustainability, and development.

Take for example a traditional herbalist who can get medication from a different potpourri of plants that can heal. This is based on experience.
However, he lacks knowledge of the biochemical process that resulted in that healing. He doesn't even know the constituents of the plants. All he knows is that plant A + plant B can cure Mr. C's illness.

If he decides to understand this whole process, he takes a pharmaceutical or biochemical course at the university. His horizon widens, and his repertoire of knowledge gets fat. This additional knowledge will fetch him more money as it is an upgrade. Even his clients will be happy to pay more if they are well-enlightened.

Originally, the higher institution wasn't meant for the poor and low IQ. It was for the elites and monarchs to train their kids in preparation to take their position after they retire or die. The peasants were meant to take local professions. Those with high IQs could fit well into the system and benefit largely because, by their IQ, they are curious and hungry for more knowledge.

Fast track to our contemporary day, the university has been filled with low IQs. People are not hungry for knowledge, but see it as a means to an end - money.

The monetization of the university by the government has even made things worst. Centers for learning and education are scattered all over the place, not for educational purposes per se but for profits. You know this by the series of departments and courses they create annually; this is to accommodate more students - the higher the number of students, the higher the profits.

A university education is not a waste. It seems like a waste in many nations today because there is no enabling environment to practice your profession and put every knowledge and skill into action.

Education can make you richer than the layman practicing the same profession as you. It's a matter of having the right tool and environment to implement that which you have learned.

2. Only a foolish son will squander the riches of his parents. Born into a rich home is a rollercoaster to wealth. It saves time and any unnecessary hustles. It gives you an edge over your peers. It gives you connections to other rich people.

Being born into a poor family is a setback. A huge disadvantage that can impede your movement and render you unable to do something meaningful with your life.
It takes a subset of individuals from poor backgrounds to experience success. The majority never meet up.

You can't compare an almajirai child running in the streets of Borno state under a scorching sun, begging for alms with a Saudi young prince. Both are not only continents apart, but in their destiny also. The prince is already in his monarchy while the almajirai is still somnabulating and looking for food to eat.

Being born with a silver spoon matters.

3. Positive thinking helps. Determination is good. Hard work is necessary. Consistency is a prerequisite.

But people do underestimate LUCK.

Your positive mindset, determination et al., are good as nothing if you don't have luck, a chance to make the big blow, and win.

You can't compare a prisoner to a free man. A healthy man to a psychiatric patient. Those that make a breakthrough from rugged conditions are the exceptions, not the rule. Luck met and blessed them.

If your environment is bad, you'll hardly see success. If government policies aren't favorable, you'll struggle hard. If you're not born with the right genetics, you'll triple work your way up.

Be prepared enough. Nothing is set in stone. We live by faith and hope, expecting to reach our destination someday. We must keep moving.

May we be favored by luck and chance.

Thanks.

As beautiful as your writeup, unfortunately it's not entirely true
How things work in reality is entirely different for example, the higher education was born out of the idea of industrial revolution in the 17th century with the objective of creating more workers, majority of every university graduate has the idea of becoming an employee cause that's what the the system programs them to become.
At this point in life the world has walked past the industrial age and those who still believe in that system actually lives in the past

Higher education doesn't make one wealthy instead it only makes one ready for administrative and corporate positions, So this proves that it's knowledge alone isn't sufficient to make you wealthy.
Yet a poor person still needs to acquire this knowledge for the sake of exposure, but that doesn't determine becoming wealthy..

These days most progressive countries with the most wealthiest people don't even bother with these education cause they truly understand how things work that all it takes is about developing a system that brings in income while having university graduates as the employee's.

1. Sir, the 17th century is about 400+ years ago. But before then, the Greeks, Egyptians, and Romans already have a higher place for learning. It wasn't termed a university per se, but we know that was what it metamorphosed to be.

I agree that many courses in the university today are not relevant. And it is these courses that have attracted low IQs into the university setting. The University of today is now a place for politics and business. It is unfortunate.

Having a university degree will not make you wealthy when you fold your hands and look. It becomes worst if the right environment isn't there coupled with unfavorable government policy. You must utilize the knowledge and skill gained.
Even the uneducated need a payable skill + a favorable environment to function. Else, he will remain dumb.

It is ridiculous to throw away the baby and bathe because the bathwater is dirty.

2. @bolded, is proof that supports my take.

If not, why wouldn't employers with no education have non-graduates like them as employees?
Why do many of these wealthiest people go back to the university to gain one degree or the other?

Thanks.

This was the same thing Job complained of in the book of Job. He saw evil men prosper. He counted the number of crooked people that were living luxuriously. The wicked men had peace; they even lived longer, and their children were fruitful and multiplied.
This is because time and chance were on their sides, however, it was transient. But the wrath of God was coming.

Swiftness makes your journey fast.
Strength conquers your enemy.
Wisdom makes you decisive and fluid.
Brilliance sets you on top.
Knowledge makes you a leader of men.

These are the qualities that shape you as a person, fit for surviving the harsh world. Time and chance will destroy the man who lacks these qualities.

The swift, wise, and strong man will forge his way ahead. Not sleeping, but keep moving. Hoping that at a good time, he'll be favored by luck and chance. He's better than the one that sleeps all day or remains stagnant hoping for that same luck and chance.

When the dumb and weak progress, it is either their dumbness or weakness has become the denier cri accepted and applauded by the people. Or wise and strong men have gone reticent.

Thanks.

Education does not make one rich.

Going to school will never make u rich.

Reading a particular course is not a guarantee that u will be rich.

Growing up to see ur parents rich will also not quarantee u riches.

Having one billion as inheritance today is not a guarantee that u will be rich tomorrow.

That ur parents are poor does not also mean that u are forbidden to be rich.

It is only a Nigerian who grew up in a hope is a strategy environment that would say the above. Studies, plentiful of them, have shown that children from wealthier families tend to be richer than their counterparts from poorer families. It is compound interest. Also, it is wrong to say some courses won't make those who studied them and know their onions to be financially comfortable. Again, studies (plentiful of them) have shown/proven that if you study quantitative inclined courses, you would out-earn your counterpart who studied history or theatre arts. For instance, a child from a poor family who studied Physics and made a first class would out-earn his counterpart who studied Fishery and also made a first class. This is because the employment opportunities for a physics grad pay more in remuneration than for a fishery grad. It is the same globally.

Bad times create strong men,

The owners of GIGM, Ekeledichukwu luxirious bus etc are dead but their children are struggling to keep the companies afloat.
Most rich nigerian entrepreneurs will see their biz fold up 40/50 years

You are very correct
These employers employ the graduates bcoz they possess the expertise and knowledge. In addition they also most importantly have the solution to alot the employers problems.

When they request for fresh graduate not older than a certain age, they are looking for innovation.

Tertiary education was intended to provide solutions to not just one problem of the society, but to all problems of society including the impossible ones through research and development.

Seriously what we have today is a far cry.

Academicians and educators are supposed to be automatic technocrats. Extremely knowledgeable and authorities in their various fields.

Agreed but most Nigerians run an individualistic kind of business.
We hardly run businesses with board of directors that run the business with little to no impact of the owner.
In other words, most of our businesses are not set up on autopilot to run efficiently for a long time without the monitoring of the owner rather the board of directors.
Businesses on autopilot are the Sellable businesses. They are the ones floated on stock exchanges because people can buy a part of shares or it and sell seemlessly which a black man is struggling to do.
Most Nigerian businesses when they are to sell them, they sell them in pieces like building, cars, equipment separately instead of selling the business as an entity still functioning.

You are on point, sir. And I agree with you.

This is the first paragraph of my first post:

CaveAdullam:
1. A university is a place of higher education where individuals gain knowledge and skills that can be used to gain a better advantage in any chosen profession. It's a cynosure for ideas from different perspectives, fused into one place so that everything taught and learned will be robust for profits, sustainability, and development.

People always rush things that are of high quality. They rush into places that have sweet results. Good things attract both the good and bad. The same goes for tertiary education.

Except these good things can filter themselves regularly, it will come to a point where they become useless. You can compare the strict policies many developed nations have put in place for migrants coming into their nations.

Professions like Tech, Medicals, Engineering, etc can easily filter themselves. Low IQs are not accommodated.

Because once the good side of these things or places has been hijacked, you'll hardly see its importance. Tertiary education has been invaded by corrupt officials for their selfish gains. Right there, low IQs are now quotidian than higher IQs. But this can't eradicate the exact reason why tertiary education was set up in the first case.

Successful (top) organizations in the world have excellent bachelors, masters, philosophers, doctors, and other intelligent people acting as the backbone.

The importance of higher education can never be underestimated.

Thanks.

Actually you're right Mr Cave, I'm not trying to condemn the institution but some people have so much believed the knowledge from those places is enough to give them automatic security of jobs and wealth thus when that becomes impossible, they just fold arms and find things to blame, I believe having modest education is good with great skills to support oneself esp if one is from a poor background.

Fix your insecurities man ,I've noticed this about you.
Stop dreaming that the rich will become poor and the poor will become rich as they're smarter or whatever,it doesn't work like that .
The rich will always have the upper hand, always!
I'll use myself as an example which I hardly do,but anyways...
See ,I started my life journey really early, why?
I had already been grown in a place where things work and had mastered the art of workability before I was 16.
At 21,I started and owned a transnational trading business, not cos I was the smartest amongst my peers but highly experienced and knew a lot of people and understood processes very well due to experience.I didn't start from bottom because I already had a platform by birth .
By 27,I started making mistakes, then came bankruptcy and difficulties,
I suffered for a while,then came help.
Family(my mom) threw her whole weight around and the bailouts began,
3 years later and it got bigger than it ever was.
I don't see how this would have been easier and quicker for a person who didn't have any help, many would have end there.
People with means will always have the upper hand, tell yourself the truth and stop lying to yourself to make you feel better.
You attach so much importance to money too, tells me you have inside issues you need to fix.
Cheers.
And as for you thinking the rich families of 30 years ago are getting overtaken by the poor ones,I'll say move out of your current neighborhood cos that ain't happening ,
Not today, not ever.
Keep dreaming.

Education is the easiest way of out poverty. Might not make everyone rich, however, it is the most common way poor people leave the cycle of poverty.

Time & Chance matters; however you must be prepared. It is said that luck is preparedness meeting opportunity. There is also the place of favour & grace which doesn't still negate handwork that provides value: God said He will bless the works of our hands. There must be a channel for the blessing.

Your background also matters a lot: a fluent background gives you a solid edge. Someone who grew up rich is already exposed to any things the poor has not heard of. He/she knows places, opportunities, trainings, investment, people etc that can elevate him/her why the poor is still struggling to survive.

Your background also helps you understand that working hard is different from working smart or providing value. Hard work which doesn't provide value would not make one rich.

Also poverty makes someone make stupid decisions as regards children. Deciding to have a lot of kids (some people can only can for one & have five,) when you cannot successfully give them the platform to succeed is wickedness. Having kids you cannot comfortably give good education is insane in today's world. An intentional poor man with a kid would go wonders than an average man with four children.

Also poverty can make people seek instant gratification. Instead of buying that extra Okada or repairing the spoilt shock absorbers of your car, you think a second wife or the owanbe lace is the next thing.

Can you imagine?

You don't know who I am (in terms of solution I can proffer) or if someone who can give you practical advise is on this thread.

What would it have cost you to talk since whatever you are doing currently is not working?

You have just concluded that nothing would change yet complaining how 'unlucky' you are.

You need a serious mindset overhaul in addition to other things you might need to do to break forth.

Life is just funny.

I am complete opposite of u.

I can stay at home for one year and not move and i would make 25million without stepping out to work.

Yes! that is my reality and that is why this life is full of wonders.

U need to improve on what u do,let me give u an instance.

One morning,my wife's colleague called to inform her that she might be a bit late to work because her car had a problem. And my wife asked her what kind of problem could it be ? And she retordedly told her that they are going to buy a brain box to fix in her car and that the said car had been worked on by one electrician without a head way for two whole days.

I just told her told my wife to call her back and we gave her my electrician who uses a gadget to trace faults and that was how her car was fixed under 1hour and surprisingly, they ended up not buying the brain box.

Lesson:
Learn modern ways of solving problems and u will earn more.

There is no time,u will go to my electrician's workshop that u will find him. He is always busy here and there working for people and making his money.

The last time I check the cost of his gadget,it was about 250k. And now,u can see why he is making it big with little efforts.

I don't believe in luck.
If you work (hard) for it, you will definitely get it.
It all depends on how determined you are.
Perseverance.

this is another lie people or motivational speakers tell you.
all those theory dont work here in nigeria.

except you want to go the fast lane, being rich is just chance and most importantly God...it doesnt matter how hard you have worked.

Life is just funny.

I am complete opposite of u.

I can stay at home for one years and not move and i would make 25million without stepping out to work.

Yes! that is my reality and that is why this life is full of wonders.

There is no time,u will go to my electrician's workshop that u will see him. He is always busy here and there working for people and making his money.

The last time I check the cost of his gadget,it was about 250k. And now,u can see why he is making it big with little efforts.

Instead of buying that extra Okada or repairing the spoilt shock absorbers of your car, you think a second wife or the owanbe lace is the next thing.
hmmmm. Can you elaborate more on this ?? I can’t connect with the example you gave afterwards . I’ll appreciate if you can . Thank you .

It means that there is that tendency or irresistible urge that makes an individual to blow (profligately spend profit made or even capital on enjoyment pleasures.

Especially when the person has suffered for too long, for extended periods of time. When the person see small money, instead of saving and investing, he spends it to impress his friends and family.

For example our greedy politician steal money like there's no tomorrow immediately they get selected or appointed, bcoz they Neva see that kind money before.

Another example is a labourer blowing his entire networth on a one night stand with a hookup prostitute.

Thanks.

Words of wisdom;

You too smart!!!!
