Abia State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has debunked rumours of plans to impeach the incumbent governor, Okezie Victor Ikpeazu, because the party lost in the just concluded gubernatorial election in the state.

In a statement signed by Abia PDP Vice Chairman/Acting State Publicity Secretary, Hon. Elder Abraham Amah, the party said meetings have been held with members of the State House of Assembly, but there is no such plans.


The party said it is a rumour being peddled by detractors who are bent on destroying the peaceful legacy built by Dr Okezie Ikpeazu in the last eight years.

It further explained that the purported impeachment has no basis because the governor committed no offence that should warrant his removal from office at this point.

Part of the statement reads: “The attention of the Abia PDP has been drawn to rumours making the rounds on social media that members of the Abia State House of Assembly are making plans to impeach the Abia State governor, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu, because the PDP lost the just concluded governorship election.

“The PDP has held meetings with its members in the Abia State House of Assembly as well as members of the opposition Party and there is no iota of truth in the impeachment rumour.

“The rumours are just the wild imaginations of rumour mongers and detractors who are bent on destroying the peaceful legacy Dr Okezie Ikpeazu has built in his eight-year tenure as the governor of Abia State.
