Sorry Putin. You went to war in Ukraine because of small Ukraine (poorest country in Europe) that won't even qualify to join NATO in the next 20 years. While doing that, Finland and Sweden (much more powerful and rich countries that are neutral are now going to join NATO.

Remember one of the reasons he gave for invading Ukraine, was the expansion of NATO countries to Russia border..

The only difference with Ukraine is that it was a formal under the Soviet Union, and maybe Putin feels they are suppose to fall under is umbrella of influence. And maybe they are still some ethic Russians in Ukraine
Apart from that I see no difference between Ukraine and Finland per proximity to the Russia federation

The entire point of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine is to get NATO far away from Russia. Putin feels that NATO is encroaching into the Russian sphere of influence.

So naturally, if Finland considers NATO membership, Putin is threatened by that too, and hence threatens back.
What he really doesn’t seem to get is that threatening his small neighbours is exactly why they feel that they have to get into NATO. Observe your bolded, you are confused! 🤣

If they don't release statement, they don't have justification to fight Ukraine the same way if NATO don't accept them, they have no justification of wanting Ukraine to join.
