If they are serious, tey should liase with motor vehicle licensing office and get an updated data of vehicles they have registered and merge them alongside the CMR police issues out.

There are a lot of people who are not aware of this news. So the publicity is poor and hence it won't work.

This is another misstep. The police have no business doing this. It should be an affair of the FRSC. The latter is responsable for drivers licensing and should be charged with all vehicles registration matters. Their website would then be available to the police for investigations in pursuit of criminal cases.

It is a very good idea but with a wrong approach. Since 1999, the fraudulent system of the CMR where a receipt is issued for 1k and assigned to 10 cars with no results is still being perpetuated with the digital version. First of all, the IGP is the Chief Vehicle Inspection Officer of the federation and it is within it's powers to create such an outfit to stem the tide of theft. But how can you charge extra money when the fraudulent CMR is imbedded to the vehicle particulars cost. Going through the MVAA charges, the police is already given 1k in every number plate. So why this extra charge? How many states operate the CMR? Does the police have any records of vehicles registered in Nasarawa? Until the unit is put in every license office, it will just be another money making venture. The former IG Idris once declared that tinted permit is free but the synergy between the state and the police was greed infested and so the people are at their wits end. I can register a stolen car in Mushin which was registered in Ikeja and new number plate will be issued. Let us cut the formality and follow the rules. If the police and the Customs are not at every license office, the policy is definitely going to be another harassment for the motorists from the police

According to the road traffic act and highway code, it shouldn't be.

It should be one of the processes the licensing office should go through before issuing you a vehicle registration license.

The vehicle licensing office ought to confirm by themselves as part of their checks that the vehicle being registered has not been reported stolen.

Nigeria just works in reverse.

So NPF is not tired of all this. They started with NPF Central Motor Registry (CMR) after a while a new IGP banned it. After some years later another IGP came and started the Enhanced Central Motor Registry (ECMR) whatever that means. After years other IGPs stated that you don't need any other registry once your car is licensed, that Police and the Licensing offices share information. So what is this now. This IGP is going back to dig up an unnecessary and failed policy

The actual problem here is putting the so-called Digitized Portal to good use.,, and to actually use it to find stolen vehicles for real.


They shouldn't use this as an eye-service trick on us, just for them to cut a big chunk of the Nigerian Budget..
