A boy, 22, was on Sunday evening set ablaze by an angry mob for allegedly stealing an Android mobile phone at Atimbo area of Calabar Municipality Local Government Area (LGA) of Cross River State.

An eye witness who narrated the incident, said the boy identified as Eyo, has been known for petty stealing around the area and has been warned severally to desist from such.

The witness, who pleaded anonymity, said that the boy committed the offence on Saturday and disappeared into thin air only to reappear on Sunday.

“I have known Eyo since secondary school, he has always been stealing, there was a time he stole half of the class school fees.

“Even as we grew into our 20s, Eyo became audacious in stealing and more notorious, he was always caught stealing, this is not the first time a mob action was carried out on him, he only met his end today.

“They started by beating him with cutlass before setting him ablaze. Funny enough, it’s just for stealing an Android phone,” he explained.

Meanwhile, Police Command spokesperson in the State, SP Irene Ugbo, has confirmed the incident and decried the act.

While noting that it was unlawful for people to take laws into their hands, she said the rightful thing to do was to have reported the suspect to the nearest police station in the area.

“Killing him in the most gruesome manner through mob action is not only barbaric, it is illegal and unacceptable,” she stated

This life...!
A few years ago a boy was roasted by an angry mob for stealing Nokia 3310!
(Some girls died also because of Blackberry)

If that boy was still alive today and you give him a box filled with the same brand of phones he would reject it!

We should be patient in life

Calabar people love human barbecue.
If you are contemplating suicide, simply go there and do armed robbery with a knife.
They will introduce you to earthly fire to prepare your soul for hellfire grin

It is funny how everyone is condemning the jungle justice even when the report states that the boy have been involving in this act of robbery severally and have been severally warned to desist from it.The implication being that he had severally been forgiven but the boy grew from strength to strength in this unholy act. What this means is that the boy will soon grow into being an armed robber who will end up wasting a lot of precious lives.I have never involved myself in jungle justice but I will never condemn a case of a verified thief in jungle justice. Pray not to have an encounter with this animals because you will end up being the champion of jungle justice.
