You can’t drag Igbo into another war, Ohanaeze tells Ekpa

Following Simon Ekpa’s self-declaration as Biafra’s Prime Minister, a faction of the Ohanaeze Ndigbo, yesterday, criticised the leader of a breakaway Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) over the declaration, noting that Igbo will not be dragged into another war.

In a statement in Abakaliki, the Secretary General of the apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation faction, Okechukwu Isiguzoro, said that the development is part of orchestrated attempts by the Finland-based Igbo enemy, Ekpa, who has made himself a ready tool for destruction of Igbo land.

He maintained that Ndigbo have rebutted and renounced, in strong terms, the formation of a purported Biafra government in exile, adding that if Nigerian government fails to check this ugly development, Ekpa’s game-plan is to plunge Nigeria into another undeserved civil war, which we must resist.

The statement reads: “Ohanaeze condemns the purported self-declaration of Ekpa as “Biafran prime minister in exile.”

“This was made known by a reports from a Finnish journalist, who was in Enugu this February to interview families of victims of his terror attacks, which he boldly affirmed on Finnish Television.

“Ndigbo has rebutted and renounced, in strong terms, the formation of the purported Biafran government in exile by Ekpa, who is seen as the greatest enemy of Ndigbo in the last 200 years, and one of the most dangerous terrorists in Africa, operating from Finland.

“If the Nigerian government fails to check this ugly development, Ekpa’s game-plan is to plunge Nigeria into another undeserved civil war.

“Ndigbo is now given a standing order to capture Ekpa dead or alive; he must not be allowed to escape justice as leader of the most dreadful killer squad in the South East whose only aim is to destabilise the region with his evil agenda of leading another civil war.”

Ohanaeze Ndigbo, the apex Igbo socio-political organization, stated on Tuesday that Biafra agitator Simon Ekpa is Ndigbo’s greatest enemy for the last 200 years.

The group urged the Finnish and Nigerian governments to ensure that he is apprehended, dead or alive.


Ohanaeze, through its Secretary-General, Okechukwu Isiguzoro, insisted that Ekpa cannot force the Igbos into civil war.

They claimed that Ekpa is an enemy of the Igbo people and that they had no connection to him.


They stated that if the Nigerian government continues to ignore the agitator, Nigeria will be plunged into another civil war.

Isiguzoro said;

Speaking further, Ohanaeze stated that Ekpa is the leader of the most dreadful killer squad in the Southeast and should be captured either dead or alive.

The Igbo socio-political organization, Ohanaeze Ndigbo on Tuesday condemned self-styled Biafra agitator, Simon Ekpa for declaring himself the Biafran Prime Minister.

“For the avoidance of doubt, Ndigbo can never be pushed into fighting another war, regardless of the provocations of Ekpa and his paymasters who surprisingly are hurt by the ongoing fraternity existing between Ndigbo and their Yoruba siblings and are hell-bent on thwarting it.

“From declaring a 5 Day sit-at-home in the South-East during the Presidential election to the declaration of Sit-at-home in Lagos, Ekpa has only one agenda- the destruction of Ala-Igbo, to fulfil his paymaster’s political ambitions.

“Indeed, his latest drama is aimed at distracting the Labour Party, LP, Presidential candidate from the pursuit of his Pan-Nigerian mandate at the election tribunal by questioning his belief in Nigeria when his people are pressing on with Biafra and now have a “Prime Minister in exile.”

Ohanaeze urged the Nigerian and Finnish Governments to delay no further in extraditing Ekpa to Nigeria to face prosecution for crimes against humanity.

“That is the only thing that will be a deterrent to Ekpa and his co-travellers,” he added.
