Thebadpolitican: Stop spreading lies. Bini is just like Ekiti, Awori, ibarapa, Egba, Egbado, Igbona, Ijesha, Itshekiri, Okun, Olukumi among other dialects within Yoruba Language. You are talking about 1800 where was Bini in the 14 century? It's very ridiculous subjugating Grand Father to his grand son. Where else are Bini enclave and territory apart from Edo? Bini is just corrupted Yoruba Language. Anyone that understands Ijebu dialect will understand Bini very well because it's just twisted Ijebu dialect. Iwure, Eledua, Uwa, Aare all have meaning in Ijebu dialect. In Bini dialect the L are twited to R. But the U, A are not different. The Old Oyo Empire extend up to Upper Volta and Yoruba people, Kings and cultural identities can still be found in those areas across over four Countries. 1 Like |

If your king answers Oba, he is a Yoruba. The name Bini is of Yoruba origin. The appellation of Your kings " Omo n oba" is of Yoruba origin, Omo Oba which means " child of a king". Ife is the source of Bini art as confirmed by Bini historians. Yoruba gods such as Olokun, Sango, Ifa, Ogun, how did they found their way to Bini? Now use your head, who colonize who? 1 Like |

And that the space we occupied in the western region were not deserved and they started their tribal sentiment against we edos until we had to pull out But oshogbo man like you wants to force edo to be yoruba by force ...you don smoke oshogbo weed again 1 Like |

Theplotter: Ogiso didn't even exist sky kings , do you belive that haha yoruba love mythical tales wonder why Oduduwa came down from chain... The benins tradition doesn't even belive on heavenly being's to begin with we believe life on earth after death lol, are you aware that during the colonial Era when indirect rule system was still in use the Oba of benin ment up with the ooni of ife for a political alliance with the Edo people, and the then ooni of ife agreed to the political alliance with the edos, and the Oba of benin would be regarded as one of the sons of oduduwa, the Oba of benin wasn't bothered about the cultural status he was given, in the new political alliance as a son of oduduwa and a false conjugated history was formed for a cultural alliance. the oromiyan history you're making reference to now was formed, hell broke loose when the edos were later becoming maltreated and oppressed in the western region, the yoruba leaders accusing the Oba of benin as not being a true son of oduduwa and the position he occupied in the western leadership wasn't deserved, and there was a need for the Edo people to pull away from the western region..... Please are you aware there is no yoruba idol in the Oba palace only edo idols, no yoruba names in the palace too, the name oba, is a benin original word that was introduced to yoruba people due to the bemin military might the Edo people had on the entire Yoruba people before colonial Era, the full title is called "omo n oba nedo" not just oba of benin the yorubas kings infact until 1930 were still addressed by the British as sir as their title until they changed it in 1930 to oba and the ooni then was the first person to attempt such move from sir the British refred them as to oba and the rest yoruba monarch followed suit afterwards. Theplotter: There is many ogiemien, ogiemien is a title given to many people by the Oba himself If you're an olokun priest, you will surely be given the title ogiemien just like the itsekiri monarch So the ogiemien laying claim to the throne is lost because the title is not hereditary Again there is no yoruba idol inside the benin palace to trace the Oba of benin is yoruba, neither is any palace title of chiefs having yoruba corrupted name All the idols in the Oba palace are edo names, the titles are edo too, so you have no choice than to believe your oduduwa coming to benin was a political play that was played out for political benefit.... The eyo celebration in Lagos is an edo related celebration Eyo in benin means amen It is easy to known if a king is foreign to a particular people there will surely be some cultural leftover identifying the foreign king to his original people but non for the case of oba of benin the yorubas tend to force Apart from the word oba which is similar between both tribe there is nothing common to show the Oba of benin came from osun We all know the benins ruled over the entire Yoruba people so them using some of our words for king, child, it's completely obvious 1 Like 1 Share |

Are you aware they are yoruba community that surrounds benin city geographically We are bounded by Ondo state So you seeing people with both yoruba and edo names shouldn't it be obvious to you The core edo people who are not close to the borders of the two state are purely edo with pure edo names Do I need to teach you Geography Or have you not seen igobs with both igbo and benin name This is to show the influence of benin empire so stop dreaming Jim james ovia founder of zennith Bank is a delta igbo man from agbor his surname 'ovia ' Is a benin word definitely he would also have his igbo name bro stop dreaming Yoruba has no ownership in benin As for the idols like I said benins is bounded by a yoruba state so those areas worship yoruba idols if we are not bounded by yoruba state then maybe it would make sense on how those influence got into benin 1 Like |

FreeStuffsNG: In particular, with hereditary titles, any king must find a way to deal with it in a savvy way. You don't undo the hereditary title bestowed by a previous king. But you can change his function in the palace. Or even appoint another non-hereditary title holder from same family to carry out the functions if a blood relative descending from that family must perform certain functions. Stripping a chief of a hereditary title or swapping it questions the judgement of the previous king, his chiefs and family who selected the candidate. Not a good precedent. That Ologbose/Ologboshere title emerged in Benin to checkmate the very powerful traditional prime minister the Iyase. Iyase was only created to checkmate others centuries earlier. Basically a cat watching activities of Iyase. In Warri, Iyase and Ologbose/Ologbotsere seem to be cat and mouse. Some things never change, wherever you take it. Olu could have created another title for a member of Ologbotsere family. Olu has that totally uncontroversial prerogative. That would allow Ayiri keep his title but become virtually irrelevant, yet kept in the fold. That would be good politics. Benin history has it in abundance for centuries. When the most senior chiefs (7 kingmakers/Uzama) began to feel too big, Oba Ewedo created an all powerful but non-hereditary Iyase (meaning by this new title created, I surpass you all). This was in 1255 AD. Later when Oba feared that Uzama chiefs could hijack coronation or even refuse their role at coronation one day, he created a set of 7 junior Uzama chiefs. Should the senior ones refuse to do their job or want to play games, the junior ones will do it. Centuries ago too. Problem solved. Till today. 3 Likes 1 Share |

Thebadpolitican:Why are you advertising your ignorance? Youruba had been using Oba while you knew only Ogiso. Oranmiyan introduced obaship to Benin. One thing you should know about history, they're always altered to suit new conquest. Rather than tell you Oba came from Ife, you would be told your ancestor went to Ife and then returned. Look at it, that's the only way the Oba could be truly safe. No king anywhere tells his subject, I came from distant or near land, conquered you and became your king. The has to change to what you'd be proud of. The intelligent question you should have asked, if Iwodo was the 30th Ogiso, when his purpoted grandson Oranmiyan returned, why was he not crowned the 31st Ogiso and Eweka, the 32nd Ogiso? Instead, Oranmiyan became the 1st Oba, Eweka the 2nd Oba. If the change in nomenclature means nothing to you, then you're not intelligent enough to talk about history. Lastly, did Ogiso have tittles like "Iya Ogiso?" A new tittle, Iya Oba, came into Benin the way it's done where Oba came from. |
Re: Olu Of Warri Installs Chief Oma Eyewuoma As New Ologbotsere In Warri Kingdom by Nobody: 2:53pm On Apr 18, 2023 |
Let me start dashing out some education once again: 1) ogiso were not witnessed by anybody who wrote about ogiso, that means, ogisos were made up in a fairytale 2) in early colonial documents about Nigeria, no monarch is referred to as Oba other than the Oba of Benin, and what yorubas tend to not understand is that the title of the Oba of Benin is Oba in short and Omo n'Oba n'Edo in long. In the same fashion, the title of the Oni of Ife is "Ooni", that of the alafin of oyo is "alafin". 3) the first record of a Yoruba monarch being called Oba in his appellation was in the 1930's and it was Oni adesoji aderemi, since then every other Yoruba monarch copied the trend: they used to be referred to in this fashion: Oni of Ife, sir adesoji aderemi. And it changed to "oni of Ife, oba adesoji aderemi. 4) the name for mother in Edo language is Iye, and the title of the Emperor is Oba, so Iyoba is naturally the title of the mother of the Oba and it is 100% truly Edo. 5) oranmiyan and oduduwa are also fairytales, young man, you do not have the intellectual capacity of distinguishing fairytales from history. 6) to conclude with, there was no ogiso, there was no oranmiyan, and nobody knows the name of the first Oba of Benin. All that is known is that the first recorded monarch of Benin was titled Oba and nobody anywhere else had that title. Also we know that the Oba had a powerful and large kingdom which you may refer to as empire, indeed many of his dukes are as powerful as kings such as the alafin of oyo. This is also for you @Thebadpolitician, when a Yoruba guy tells a lie about Benin history, show him the truth with evidence, sorry I didn't read all you wrote, you actually did a mostly good correction/exposing of the fairytales of these Yoruba. But one thing: the Oba didn't enter any alliance with Yoruba monarchs to create oduduwa, nope the current legend of oduduwa is a political myth created by yorubas with an attempt to federate the western region into a monoethnic entity with Ife as capital and Yoruba as culture, the Oba of Benin never agreed to that and he countered it, the pushback from the Oba of Benin is what gave us the Midwestern region. fatiaforreal: |
