It is not necessarily govt stealing the funds. U can still have access to it whenever u demand for it.
As for the guy saying his father died interstate, that's no issue. Resolve with your siblings get a letter of administration, open an estate account and your father's money will be transferred into the estate account. Simple.
if you know how banking system works. This is nothing but stealing, government takes the money, over a period of 5 years waste it on some frivolous budget, that government account is now reading zero, after 6 years you want to claim an account you are next of kin to, they tell you no money in government coffers.
Do you have any idea what happened to pension funds, used to set up AMCON?

AMCON went to buy alot of toxic assets they can't lay their hands on, many of the assets cases are still in court, do you know who owns that money they use for bailout funds? We the people, our father and mothers sweats, mains stole billions out of it, got less than seven years jail time, while people who owns the money are struggling to get their pension.
The companies MDs whose companies were bailed out plus the failed banks are there free on the street enjoying the money from pension to fund AMCON.

They don't want to create more monet by fist.. Before naira will tumble to a million to a dollar like Zimbabwe and Argentina so anything available they grab and leave the mess to others.

One thing this people don't understand is that if the economy is improved by them, they get richer.. If economy getting worse, no matter how much they stole.. They too will get poorer... It's very simple.

This just confirms that the Government can take your money anytime and anyhow they choose. They employ policies such as this, inflation etc. Try as much as possible to not keep money in Naira and diversify into for example crypto, its not as bad as people perceive it to be. But OfCourse like any reasonable investor, our have to do your due diligence, ask questions

Tankio for making a lot of sense out of this. Otedola and co got AMCON money.. today they’re far richer because their business entities passed on losses to Nigerians via AMCON… but got rewarded individually thru their proxy companies and agents.. They are far richer today than they were when AMCON was set up.

Policies like this shouldn't have turned out a big deal if we had in place a government that's trustworthy in spirit and in truth; by keeping to every of their promises.
The ten days notification required by the government to refund owners their money, should they turn up may forever be an illusion.

The CBN should scrap this crazyy idea immediately. It is indeed counterproductive, the Bank should put on its thinking cap and generate funds from other allowable sources.

Exactly I did mention this days ago. Why fill in next of kin details in the account opening process if you're not gonna contact them in times like this..

You that doesn't know how the banking system works is castigating someone who by the virtue of his comment knows how the system works. I will not go into that.

But for the sake of your education and for future reference, AMCON was never set up with pension funds. It amazes me how you people come out to display your ignorance.

Buhari has used Emefiele to achieve his political aims, he is about to dump him and replace him with someone from the North ☝️

It will be better to keep shut when the topic being discussed is beyond your compression. Each time you comment on some topics, you never fail to exhibit your incomparable stupidity.

Is it Buhari who has barely five weeks to hand over that has informed you he wants to replace Emefiele who has at least a year to end his tenure as CBN Gov. with someone from the north?

Indeed, fools abound on this forum.

Since 5 years I've told my friends this would eventually happen, based on how APC runs government. If something doesn't change well for the economy soon, all your domiciliary accounts will follow suit. Pension funds, any money "sleeping in accounts". We've been in a recession for a while, hence the unending borrowing beyond govt revenue.

Re: CBN Dormant Account Policy Triggers Anxiety In Banking Sector by MasterTeeUSA: 6:27pm On Apr 21, 2023
Why would anyone want to stop CBN from claiming funds in Dormant Accounts?

After a period of time, the FDIC or the bank must transfer unclaimed property to the state. Federal law requires unclaimed deposit accounts to be transferred to the state after 18 months, and state laws differ on the period of time after which contents of safe deposit boxes must be transferred.

That is from the United States...18 months. Yet, Naija will sit there for years...let those who have stolen the funds come out and claim it. ...if not, publish them in the newspapers or online where people can find information based on last names...then transfer them within a month of doing so.
