Deji Abiola Wants Theft Charge Quashed

Second son of the late Chief MKO Abiola, Deji Abiola, today asked an Ikeja High Court in Lagos to quash the N35.5 million charge of stealing preferred against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
Deji Abiola was arraigned on 30 June before Justice Adeniyi Onigbanjo by the EFCC.
He was charged to court on a one-count charge of stealing N35.5 million belonging to a Lagos-based printer, Mr Jide Jose, under the pretext of helping him to import printing machines from Switzerland.
When the matter came up for hearing today, his lawyer, Mr P.O. Jimoh-Lasisi told the court that the defence had filed an application which was served on the prosecution on 16 September.
The application dated 13 September had asked the court to quash the one-count charge preferred against Abiola and an order asking the court to discharge him.

Jimoh-Lasisi argued that the EFCC had no right to prosecute the accused because the charge of stealing brought under Section 390 (cool (b) and (9) of the Criminal Code Law Cap C17 Vol. 2, Laws of Lagos State 2003, was a state offence.
“The information is frivolous, vexatious and aimed at harassing and intimidating the accused and constitutes an abuse of court process,” the defence lawyer stated in the application.
The Senior Advocate further argued that the court therefore had no jurisdiction to try Abiola by virtue of the charges preferred against him.
Jimoh-Lasisi also asked the court to grant Abiola who is already on bail permission to travel abroad for medical reasons before the next adjournment.
EFCC prosecutor, Mr Omeiza Adebola admitted that the prosecution has been served the application and asked for a short adjournment.
The judge subsequently adjourned the matter till 10 November, 2011.

If he is found to be culpable in this matter, then he should face the music, after all his father never involved in any shady deals till he die, so if chooses to involve in shady deal, let him pay the price.

Bros. wetin pain you about the comment? Is it because the reference contrasted 'sharply' to your knowledge or perception of who the late Abiola was.Maybe you do not know him enough (Just thinking aloud)

I think this young man called Deji is having great difficulty cutting his trouser according to his new cloth.Maybe he needs to be jostled back to reality that the financial capability of his family status cannot sustain some of his excesses anymore. If he cannot come to terms with this new reality then it is very sad that he has chosen to tarnish the name & legacies his father left behind  sad

Everybody is claiming that Kola ate all the money but I do think Abiola fought tooth and nail for the presidency because his business empire was in a mess and he wants to sit on top of the nations wealth and put back life into his business. Nobody actually knew how much he was worth and his liabilities. May be Kola paid of his liabilities and discovered that his dad had a little under N100M left plus the house at Ikeja.

@ aloy , your making some sense there bro, this might be true oooo, we mostly judge ds awa so called billionaire's by how much they spend and how much noise they make even the quite ones as well. Hmmm word, a few years ago Agbo was doing Fridge importation and things which tells u how low things might have bn ooo and a few of the Abiola girls were putting their mums jewellery on sale for the highest bidders , The bottom of wealth pot is filthy they say, "isale oro legbin"

Not making fun of them but I don't adore them as well. Life is there for the living, they should all wake up and do something even if its hustling like their father, do something,

See Mike Adenuga wey everybody dey shout since,  Bank ds Bank that,  he has not bn able to re capitalise as much as Sanusi tried to save his bank, now another bank has bought majority of his bank , so where all ds money wey everybody dey shout, sef, I know he has a BIG EGO so if he had the funds he wont have allowed this to happen,
Close sources are saying his biz plan all his major businesses are actual money laundering of funds,  bar GLO,  Hmmm

The story of Deji Abiola should serve as a lesson to those who acquire too much wealth with the hope of saving up for their grand children. All our politicians should take note.Let us remember that the future is unknown.
