it's is obvious the student body cannot force such change in company policy,if it is from the Telecom ministry then it might have weight, moreover students have no business with watching TV,let them study and graduate, they should be thanking God that school is now on and not on strike,if you cannot afford DStv it is not by force, technology is marching on relentlessly and I see DStv been extinct like the video recorder,DVD and vcd, with the influx of smart TV,Netflix and other internet based services their days are numbered.

It is a nice call, but from the wrong set of people, what has the two chambers of the national assembly said about this? What has consumer protection council said about this? What has the various human rights groups said about this? All these groups are silent allowing a group of students that should be concentrating on their studies to lead a fight that wasn't meant for them. Those students should pay more attention on their studies, they have no business with cable tv for now. Cable tv is not in their curriculum, it will only distract them. On the other hand I also commend them for being concerned about the I'll treatment meted on Nigerians

NANS should consider that

1.Multichoice has thousands of Nigerians working for them directly and indirectly, and they all want to be PAID WELL

2.The people worldwide who make the TV programees and bring you the stuff you want to watch also want to be PAID WELL.

3.The equipment used to bring you those DSTV shows, were made by people who want to be PAD WELL

4.The Premier league is made up of football players and so forth who want to be PAID WELL

5.Health and other insurance costs a lot of money for workers who want to be PAID WELL.

6. No one in Nigeria has done pay as you go. No country in the world where DSTV is has pay as you go. Because it cannot work for a system where workers want to be PAID WELL.

7. Did TSTV's pay as you go work.? No, because ....PAID WELL.

NANS should realize that when prices go up, it is because a lot of people, not just the rich and mightly...but a lot of poor people who work and pay bills and so forth...want to be.....PAID WELL.

Maybe NANS should set up their cheap version of DSTV and bid for programme rights....or tell their members to patronize STARTIMES. STARTIMES last i checked is VERY VERY CHEAP.
are you ok at all...every year they keep increasing their tarriff and still show old outdated movies and repeats documentary and u expect people not to complin...I can't wait for their offices to be locked..

When you say filing station, are you specific or lumping them generally?

Let me add, the oil and gas industry is heavily subsidised. This led to the birth of black market. Legislation are made regarding fuel price, the customs (FOU) locks up fuel station selling above the market price

There are other regulatory bodies too. I've been to some border areas and this is a regular practice.

If a fuel station decides to sell at a higher rate, people patronise the other station wifh lower price. This interaction brings price to equilibrium

For DSTV, bulk of their revenue is generated from Nigeria and why they practice "pay as you go" in other countries is due to their stringent labour laws

We are not asking for special treatment but what is obtainable in saner climes.

This is Bias!
This is Injustice!! This is Unfair!!!

Open Letter to *Inspector General of Police* ; Nigeria Police Force, The *Force Education Officer ; Nigeria Police Force Education Unit, The Director ; Federal Civil Service Commission.

Upon hearing the good news of the approved 40% pay rise for the federal civil servants most especially we teachers on CONPSS SALARY STRUCTURE* which is consider to be the poorest salary structure in Nigeria, happiness run-over our veins, smiles takeover our faces, our body system encounter relieve off the economy crisis we are facing in our dear country, we are jubilating, praising the Lord and lauding our dear President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria; General Muhammad Buhari for his kind gesture not knowing that we will be cutoff from benefitting from the pay rise of which we are duly entitle to benefit as stated by the Federal Civil Service Commission after all we are under CONPSS SALARY STRUCTURE and others civil servants under this salary structure received and benefitted from the pay rise this very month of April. But we teachers serving under *Nigeria Police Force Education Unit* were denied our rights. This is not the first but we pray to be the last.
Being a staff working under police organization is the greatest mistake we ever made in our life. Teachers in *Nigeria Police Force Education Unit* don't know where they're belong to, that is, there is no umbrella for them to stay under, they are neither police personnel nor civil servants. When something valuable comes to police personnel, they would exclude Teachers, they describe teachers as civilian and they could only benefit from what other *federal government teachers are benefiting* . But when something related to work arises, they would say teachers are part of police and they are doing police work. Whereas, if benefit comes from federal for federal teachers to benefit, police will seize it. They failed to take care of all teachers entitlement but they want teachers to serve them better. No way!

40% pay rise is our right, pay it!

Teachers serving under Nigerian Army, Navy and Air Force have started enjoying this befitting benefit*

*You claim to be our friend, show it!*

The Inspector General of Police

The Force Education Officer

The State Commissioner of Police

The O/C MSS

Police Service Commission

Federal Civil Service Commission

The Nigeria Labor Congress

TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN

40% pay rise is our right, we deserve it and we were given, please, release it!

They know all these you mentioned.
All they are saying is, let multichoice operate the Pay As You View system which they have in other countries where they operate. I do not think this is too much after all, we are always quick to mention international best practices in this part of the world.

I am disappointed to be reading this sort of threat from an organisation like NANS. Their preoccupation should be with the quality and delivery of Education in Nigeria, not commercial interests that have nothing to do with their welfare.

DSTV is not an essential service, not even a government service nor a Monopoly, so why is NANS giving them an ultimatum? Unsubscribe to their service and move to Startimes if they are too dear and they will learn their lesson when enough people do the same. But to shut their offices is unlawful and a practice that is alien to democratic norms.

Don't just blame our politicians when Nigeria doesn't work, we all just pick and choose the aspects of democracy that suits us and this makes the country the way it is.

Giving out threat messages for them is a stupid and unlawful way to go, having dstv is not mandatory if you can't pay then find something else to watch, what they should be doing is to kill the monopoly of dstv by bringing other competition into the industry, if others were available people would have better option to port to instead of just dstv. It's a business and they cannot set it up to run at loss.

On what basis would NANS have to close down a private company's offices. While the goal might be great, the steps they plan to take is very illegal. I am against all these illegal attacks by these so-called Unions and I am a strong proponent of Unions.

You want to force your preferred price on a private company.

There is no such thing like DSTV monopoly.
There are others such as StarTimes and TSTV but you refuse to use them.
The idea that you can regulate premium subscription TV is ridiculous to say the least.

Does the members of NANS have the power to lock up the premises of DSTV or any other company to start with?

The issue is simply that of the regulatory agencies who choose to look the other way while companies allegedly take advantage of Nigerians.
This has nothing to do with regulatory agency.
If you don't believe me, go and read up the NBC act.

This was how they worked against per second billing until Globacom broke the monopoly.

Nigeria is a big market for God's sake, why will companies, especially foreign owned, enjoy taking us for a ride?
Nobody is working against anything. Businesses make decision that is
best for their bottom line.

Now that you mentioned Glo. Why do you want the government
to start competing with private companies?

There was no law or threats that made Glo introduced the per second billing.
Neither did anybody forced MTN and others to adopt it.

If you don't want to pay for DSTV, go and get StarTimes!
