What was the government doing when those buildings they're demolishing now were being erected up to this level. Now someone is taking a huge loss that could have been averted
while some poor nairalanders are rejoicing.
Dou I know it may be an illegal structure and needs to be removed but rejoicing on someone’s setback is evil.

My advise to anyone trying or in the process of acquiring landed properties in Lagos. Should please put it on hold, because the land issues and corruption in Lagos ministry of lands and housing needs Gods intervention. The level of corruption in that ministry is unbelievable.

The people in that ministry and government officials don't have the fear of God.

Are you people cursed? Are igbos the only one building in Lagos? Everytime a demolishing exercise is conducted, your likes screams victimization as if igbos are the only one in Lagos, these petty cries are becoming irritating and extremely childish.

Inasmuch as it will be managed by Nigerians,it is dead on arrival, seems most of us do not know we are the problem and not some imaginary government that the gullible ones amongst us have been made to believe.

Good move !

The building material markets need to be regulated too..
If possible there should be an agency that supervises all building projects… both government & private

If those structures were illegally built they can be demolished at any time. It is like a fraudster caught after he has deceived many or a robber nabbed after operating for many years. Apprehension is an event even after a journey.

What can help sanitize the industry is for government regulators to establish a whistle blower system if they are absolutely sincere about capping this problem.

The construction industry has a lengthy value chain involving many operators and professionals so there is ample opportunity for any one conscionable and dissatisfied person to speak up on any specific establishment, project or structure that may pose a danger to his life, his profession or risk public health and safety as a result of risky practices no matter who is involved.

But once again, the regulators have to be sincere and operate in absolute fidelity to protect such a system. To this end I suggest such an office can be established within Government House itself.

Government must be aware of all illegal structures being constructed throughout the state as soon as first digging is made!

Now someone is taking a huge loss that could have been averted

You meant someone who could have killed a lots of people as a result of illegal structure?

MatrixReloaded:
This is not high rise building na. So what is the problem with a storey building?

Because illegal one story buildings can't collapse, right?

Someone said and I quote 50% will sort, 30% will make phone calls and 20% will suffer the disastrous act

They are the wicked Govt.

Human beings! Now that government are being proactive and waking up to her responsibility to prevent loss of lives, it has automatically become a wicked Govt!

This is exactly what I am saying. Sincerity. And how important the issue of collapsing buildings is to the public, the citizens.

If citizens are TRULY angry about such things they will act against government. The government in turn will then act against the regulators and the regulators will be up and doing to checkmate bad practices. That is how society works well.

But when there is no consensus amongst the citizens (as we can see from some posts above) as to the right course of action against malpractices then regulators fall through the cracks and crime spirals out of control.

And this is the problem with Nigeria in all aspects of life, a people that always pander to sentiment and without shared values will continue to expose themselves to misrule.

That is what we say.
The people sending mixed signals to government as to what they want. Like a traffic light showing red, yellow and green at the same time. Mixed signals will cause accidents sooner than later.
