The decision to postpone subsidy removal and at the same time commence salary increase implementation seem like attempts to sabotage the new administration before it's taken office.

Not that Tinubu personally cares. If anything, his supporters will use Buhari's ineptitude as propaganda in future to make excuses for him.

Even if Tinubu lost, an incoming Atiku or Obi or even Abiola of PRP (Assuming he won, lol), would still consider removing subsidy.

The amount has reached a point where it is no longer sustainable. Either the incoming admin lies to itself like all past admins, or faces reality.

That 40% salary increase was shocking. The agreements they are rushing to sign are befuddling.

We need fiscal and monetary tightening to bring our debt profile to a sustainable level, not reckless spending.

Reckless spending = more debt, more debt = increased chance that we default on repayment, default will = crash of the naira to well over N1, 200 to $1. To put things in context, the Egyptian pound lost 50% of its value last year alone.

Naira crash = hyper inflation which will finally turn the economy upside down.

By then, we will be in the clutches of IMF, like Ghana, Sri Lanka, Argentina, Egypt, and Lebanon.

Inflation in Lebanon is over 250%. Bread there costs 50 times as much as it did 3 years ago.

That's the equivalent of buying a N500 loaf of bread for N25,000.

All because they failed to manage their economy properly.

Tinubu needs to declare a debt state of emergency as soon as he gets in and do the following:

1. Temporary ban on salary increases
2. Ban on certain infrastructural projects for 2 years - e.g no new major road construction to be approved. Let's do patching for now
3. Orasanye report or a revised version should be implemented. Many agencies should be abolished or merged
4. Sell off non performing refineries that are still gulping tens of billions annually.

In the mean time:

1. Channel resources into education - elevate their infrastructure, keep agreements made with lecturers, and help our schools produce graduates that can compete on a global level,

2. Increase import duty exponentially on non-essential reckless imports that is destroying the value of the naira. I don't understand why my local supermarket has 4 different types of almond milk. 10 years ago, nobody had heard of almond milk, and we survived.

3. Spend on improving efficiency in public service delivery.

A few years ago, registering a company was complicated and in many cases required bribing CAC staff. Today, the process is as smooth as butter because the entire process has been moved online and no.more bribery. The efficiency gains are massive. This approach should be adopted across all government departments. It will significantly reduce if not eliminate corruption, at very little cost.

4. Pay down our debt.

5. By the end of year 2, start loosening the purse strings again, but more responsibly than the current govt. Paying down the debt significantly will help to stabilise the Naira, and help Mr Tinubu to start investing in priority infrastructure again. New roads, better schools, better hospitals etc

Instead of immediate salary increases, he should consider removing anyone earning N40, 000 or below from paying income tax. This will have less impact on inflation.

every single thing you wrote here is just 💯💯💯.

Well done dissecting the problems and proferring actionable solutions. Unfortunately, as far as the APC is concerned, I won't hold my breath. As someone said up there, not only will they mess things up further, but be rest assured their supporters and praise singers will spend all day everyday blaming Buhari, just as they spent 8 years blaming Jonathan.

It's refreshing that we still have some sound people on here. At a point, I was starting to think abi na AI copied answers ni.

Northern Political leaders are notorious for pulling down Nigeria.

When a Southern President move Nigeria economy forward immediately a northern President come on board he immediately bring the economy to its feets.

That is how Nigeria has been operating since Independence and the coming of democracy in 1999.

All these ones don't matter as far as Tinubu answers President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. He has no intention of getting caught in any of these so called booby traps because he is set to be even more unaware than Buhari ever was while the ever-ready useful idiots and bigoted lapdogs will continue to drum up support for him, insist he is never to be held accountable and rather go hunting for 16 years of PDP as a scapegoat for their (APC/Tinubu/Buhari) ineptitude.

Vote for who get strength, character, competence and conscience una say no; INEC too follow dabaru the process because they were told to grab it, snatch it and run away with it...we're all here.

Oho! i never talk finish dem don start. Obvious issues have been identified, someone has come to call it unnecessary distraction. It is the same people that will say that no matter what opposition statements are made, it will change nothing and that Tinubu must be sworn in as president yet, same people will be hounded as having so much effect as to be distracting the 'President'. A question you should be asking yourself is what is your reputation on Nairaland?

You post more than 99% of Nairalanders but how many people have you swayed to your side of thinking?

Of course I'm not including your fellow urchi.ns, tribal bigots or those who depend on APC to feed.

I mean people who are doing well on their own or at least average who are exposed and were educated in good schools.

You won't find any of them shifting to your train of thought.

Look at the lie in your first sentence that anyone with above average intelligence can spot.

Nigerians did not elect Tinubu. INEC selected him and the thousands of mutilated documents on IREV are enough proof.

Let's not talk about the fact that more Nigerians voted AGAINST Tinubu so when you add the votes counted for his two major opponents- they even dwarf his INEC inflated votes.

Anyway, continue with your failed whitewashing attempts on Tinubu.

He still remains a confirmed accomplice to heroin dealers and the most corrupt politician in Nigeria.

And he will not transition to Presidency.

Wait and See!

helinues:
Nigerians elected his Excellency Bola Tinubu because they believe in his ability to solve issues.

Tinubu is the most prepared candidate ever not just in this year election but in all the Nigeria past presidential election.

I believe in Tinubu's capabilities, he should be allowed to make the difference without unnecessary distraction

Sometimes I wonder if the people Buhari assembled as Ministers and advisers actually understand what they are doing. How can a government in less than 2 months to the end of it's tenor went on borrowing all in the name of cushioning subsidy remover they would later abandoned? When you borrow because of subsidy remover, are you not doing the say thing? The answer is capital NO because that borrowing attracted huge interest which when put together, will be higher than the amount spent on subsidy.

Then another madness of overnight salary increase which I believe was not captured in the budget. That only attack another billions for supplementally budget, the only source of which is another borrowing.

I still do wonder where they got their data of poor people they claimed to be paying them #5k from the (rooted) sorry borrowed money. What's their definition of poverty and how do they arrived at those selected?

When the day finally dawn on us, both those in support of this evil and the neys won't be spared.
