In Nigeria, the argument is that prostitution is illegal. But that applies only to Northern Nigeria, where Sharia is practiced (https://sabilaw.org/the-legality-of-prostitution-in-nigeria/). However, the same people who castigate hookups will never relocate to the North to live.

This brings me to the next solution: social engineering. If you want the women in your society to be chaste, it is your responsibility as the men in that society to insist on certain moral standards. It is why young ladies in the North do not openly practise hookup compared to the South. Even in the south, some regions are "morally" stricter than others. It is the men who set the standards. Recently on Facebook, in one of the states in the south, I read that husbands or older men sleep with secondary school girls who just finished WASSCE/SSCE. When you do so while your northern counterpart marries the same girl, you tell that girl in your society that she can charge for sex. Meanwhile, her contemporary in the north knows that for sex to happen, there has to be commitment aka marriage.

P.S. Sex is not free. You pay at a point.

Another is poverty. The poorer a society is, the greater the number of women engaging in hook-ups. Women are demisexual, but when push comes to shove, they resort to sex work. Because there is a demand. Patronising sex workers is cheaper in poor countries compared to rich nations. The common theme here (https://www.nairaland.com/7496716/what-exactly-does-one-enjoy) was that sex is cheap in Nigeria. But ask your paddies whether patronising sex workers in Canada is cheap, and hear/read their responses. The solution is to ensure your society becomes very prosperous. In return, your women will have fewer reasons to engage in hook-ups. Fewer reasons because even in prosperous societies, hook-ups still exists. Because, remember, sex is natural. There is a demand, and demand doesn’t exist in a vacuum. Unfortunately, Nigerian men have not been able to create a prosperous society (https://www.nairaland.com/6643241/nigerian-men-failed-women).

P.S. No prosperous country had women at the forefront of development.

Which north?

Sabongari in Kano is the headquarters of Prostitution. Ask anybody living in Kano.

Why is that you people have this predeliction for ban, regulation, block etc? Huh? On TwitterNG, some say government should regulate house rents or food prices even when those policies have never worked elsewhere. So, I ask, where in the world do you know that the government arrested men for having sex? Desiring to have sex? Why should the government arrest a man because he has sexual urges (which is natural)?
pls tell this person

He got a point. They should be arrested for patronising prostitutes... That's the only way to reduce hookup. And, there are other ways to satisfy ur needs as a guy.
If no one is ready to buy what they sell they'll find other things to do.
Then the lady who offered sex, or accepted money for sex should not be punished?

While this may earn you cheap popularity with women, it's actually not in their favour long term.

It implies that, in your estimation, they are somehow deficient and cannot be treated equally as men or can't take responsibility for their actions as can be expected of men.

So much about gender equality.

The way to reduce hook up is for the government to arrest the men patronising prostitutes on the streets and the web.

The Government should also fine the men heavily like N500,000 or jail term term of 2 years.
Most men will prefer to pay a fine ,the govt generates good money from these money wasting men and it is utilised back into the society.
Reduce prostitution, which job government give them?

If you want to reduce it, then the government should make jobs available to the them. You can't beat a child and tell her not to cry.
People these days are desperate for survival. Those who are opportuned to have jobs are not better than them

All these manipulative argumentative tactics that you've deployed only makes you come off as dishonest. Why not quote me directly instead of this lame method?

You've even brought in rape into the equation, a sensitive angle that no one will support, just to give your stance some form of legitimacy, but all you did was deviating from the point.

To make it clear, rape a crime, and it is never the victims fault. A man that a rapes a child should be given the harshest crime in the book, I support that. Death sentence? No problem. Kill him. I don't care.

But rape and prostitution are not the same. Why one earth are you bringing child rape here? Cant you argue your point consistently without deviation? In what world is childrape and prostitution in the same book?

Also tell me in what world that to in order to stop prostitution, the women are exempted from any form of responsibility, but just the men. You just proved what karleb is saying. How you women hate accountability.

Also tell me which part of my argument violate the law of supply and demands. And also explain to me how letting women to post their private part on coded runs, stand on the junction to lure in customers etc will stop prostitution.

And yes my point remains. This is what you can do if you want to be taking seriously. Quote the paragraph you disagree with just like every one have done and engage me on that. Stop hiding behind all these tricks. Defend your truth. Smh
Someone once told me that 3 out of every 10 Nigerian girl has either been raped, almost raped or touched inappropriately by men. I believe you've heard stories of married men forcefully sleeping with their maids or wife's sister. This should tell you that most Nigerian men are dogs.

During my university days, I walked into the office of one of my lecturers in a hot sex session with a student. We've heard how even professors have been sacked by universities for engaging in sex for marks.

The reason why hookups still thrives and would continue to thrive is because men keep demanding for it.

During the covid 19 lockdown, nose mask and hand sanitizers were high in demand, their prices skyrocketed, people were investing considerable amount of money into the business cos it was thriving.

Today if you invest in nose mask and hand sanitizer, you might end up selling less than 5 in a whole month. The reason is because there is no more demand, so the business has died a natural death.

If Men learn to control their sexual urges, and married men remain faithful to their wives, hookup would die a natural death cos there would be no one patronizing the girls in the business. Why because the demand for it would reduce greatly.

The reason why you see some girls charge as high as 100k is because of demand, she believes that people would pay. If men stop patronizing her, she'll cut her price to even 5k, and when she sees that it's no longer profitable, she'll look for something else to do.

It's as simple as that.

You are very funny. You want Government to ban what it enjoys...why do you think they have special duties ? Some special duties is to arrange side attractions for visiting government guests in locations they visit, or arrange side attractions for events , parties , etc

If you like ban Hook up, if you like ban yahoo, if you like ban alcohol, Nigeria is already a morally degraded society.

You can't stop it's decay, Nigeria is a shithole.

If a drug baron can contest in a presidential election and still have followers voting for him and boast of winning through dubious means and he succeeded, what does that tells you.

Op still find a way of blaming men for prostitution....Please western society that is going morally confused about women...Women seems to be an idol to them...War is at the door step of Europe for the first time they now know the value of Men ......Do you think those people are reasoning properly...Why don't they arrest people for patronizing Drug barons, why they don't closed down financial houses for aiding money laundering but now it involves women they love to worship They need to arrest their customers...
Who says there's no prostitution in Canada nor in Sweden .....but yet this countries promote Pornography and earn so much from it that Porn is among the biggest money spinner on the internet than Fb, Netflix, YouTube, put together....
They're so confused now that they need to give a boost to their sexual liberty by introducing trans-gender, Homosexuality and all sorts of nonsense ....
Go to Canada and see the way women are in need of companionship, 65% adult women in the US are single and single mum's and the stats is growing ....Their fertility rate is dropping but still thinks men who patronize prostitution are the problem..
The larger parts of the world are getting wiser and have begin to see the west for what they are "Double standard" and Confused the Russia debacle is just a tip of the ice berf of what is to come

Men, even married ones, pay for sex. What do you think bride price is for? There is also the housekeeping money o.

An old man who wants to fcvk a much younger girl will have to pay more directly than her fellow young guy on campus.

Once the power relationship is significantly different, the more powerful guy will pay for sex more directly than indirectly.

Interesting conversations going on here. Ideally, when you cut supply, you cut demand.

However, Nigeria's case is different. Hookup is not just because of poverty, it has become a way of life. Girls with good job still do hookup on a bigger level.

Greed and the need to live above ones means has taken over our culture. Even with a good economy, you're still likely to have a lot of girls doing hookup. We need a lot of orientation to change people. Perhaps if we start now, the next two generations will adjust and learn to believe in hardwork and shun easy money.

When you cut supply, demand actually goes through the roof.

The solution to proffer depends on what you really want. I noticed that males are too ashamed to spell out what they really want from the female gender.

For example, a lot of the voices calling for an end to the 'hook-up culture' are actually complaining about the prices, they want free s$x!

Look at one example given up there, the diasporan guy didn't want to pay 100k for 'yansh'

If you males really want the trend to end, let every man have his (one) wife, and let every woman have her (one) husband.

But you people are 'polygamous in nature'

Una never ready.

Or you need me to tell you more ? Most of you people either live in a bubble or get all your information from social media, you forget the real world is different from social media. I dare you go outside tomorrow morning go to the market and the university nearest to you count the number of people on the road. Tell me how you will stop or reduce their urge to have sex

A society that demonize covering up but glorify nudity will activate extreme sexual drive. When sexual drive increase, men will go for the woman and the cycle continues.

Hookup, just like yahoo is because of nothing other than greed - most times
