Russia would have ended the war sharply in the first week if they used the US system of "shock and awe", where you bomb everything that moves before sending troops in. The Russian army did not want to use overwhelming force eg a shot is fired from a building at Russian troops moving by, they don't shoot back to avoid civilian casualties. In the case of the US, an airstrike will be called on the building or tank rounds used to flatten it. Did you not see videos of civilians standing in front of Russian tank columns and the whole convoy will stop? Soldiers begging them to give way? Whole families of Iraqis were killed by American tanks for not moving out of the way fast enough!
