Okay. It's an unmarrried partner visa. My partner is a UK citizen. Hope that helps to clarify.

It depends on the kind of visa- visit and work/dependent have different rules

Yes, I live in England.

If you don't mind me asking, please what does it take to get the medical exemption?

Thanks.

Zahra29:

Do you live in England? (Different rules apply in Scotland)

Adult prescriptions are self -funded unless you have an exemption. If you have a valid medical exemption certificate for the diabetic prescriptions, it's not a public fund.

I gather its part of the family visa group which is a pathway to ILR. Moreso, you should have paid IHS fee during application hence are eligible for the full gamut of routine NHS services. It does not class as 'public funds' for immigration purposes. Worth registering with your local GP and requesting this meds plus a diabetic review which should subsequently occur annually

Even for those visiting on a visit visa who run out off or forget their medications, they may get a prescription by calling 111 or visiting the local urgent treatment centre or visiting the emergency dept (esp if its an essential medication which certain diabetic medications would be). In some cases, they may be asked to pay a private prescription fee.

This helps explain what is public funds for immigration purposes and not

It will be a long ride in the next four years even here in the UK especially with Uncle Musk now pulling Oga Starmer's beards up and down. Everyone was aware of the consequences of November 2024 so no one should be pretending now.

Hehe... Kier is having it tough.

UK kowtowing to the U.S no be today but got worse since Brexit as standing alone leaves the UK at the back of the queue hence we have become more desperate for any trade agreement. Obama warned about this.
Must issue came to the fore when the UK went cap in hand begging him to open a factory here. Chap ultimately looked the other way siting Brexit even after a sitting PM 'interviewed' him. Imagine the PM interviewing a private business man. Funny enough, it was the much hated Indians that came to UKs aid and agreed to build a battery factory after securing generous terms.

Many whites (in other countries) who are native english speakers see the UK as their family house for historical reasons esp white South Africans
His father has called Kier a fascist. X has left Tommy Robinsons hate filled documentary on. He is now calling for Tommys release. The UK can't do much about him cos upsetting the coming US president is considered too risky a venture. All Musk needs to do is dangle the possibility of a factory and the those in Westminster would start singing a different tune.

I wonder what he and the likes of Vivek would be telling their kids after their fellow republican 'freedom fighters' and 'truth speakers' have now turned calling him all kinda names because of his skin colour.
Even Musk had to call out the racist language.

No worries, I asked about location because prescriptions are free in Scotland/ Wales but chargeable in England.

To get the medical exemption certificate,
ask your GP for an FP92A form and fill this out. Your GP will sign it and send it off and you should receive the certificate (it's a card) in the post. You'll need to present this card to the pharmacy each time you collect your prescriptions as evidence that you don't need to pay.

Note it's completely free to obtain the medical exemption certificate. Note also that it applies only to the named holder.

This is misleading.

There are different rules in England and the "full gamut" of NHS services does not include free prescriptions (and other services such as dental treatments and eye tests)

Prescriptions are free in Scotland and Wales but chargeable to most adults resident in England, NHS surcharge or not, unless an exemption applies. Only contraceptives and medicine for in- patients are universally free.

Anybody with sense knows that the core MAGA issue wasn't illegal immigration as it was painted but non white immigration whether legal or illegal. They thought they were not in the same category with blacks and Latino immigrants cos they are the IT gurus.

Happy new year, wishing all fruitful 25. Please there is a question I want to ask and will be happy if I can get a solution or advise.

I am a Resident in Lithuania and I have visited UK in 2023 like 3 times , when I renewed my UK visit visa in 2024, I travelled to UK in January in 2024 where I met my wife and we got married in Nigeria in Dec 2024. Though between 2024 jan and DeC 2024 I have visited her in the UK so many times .

She works as a senior care worker in her place of work as she came in 2023 before the changes in the immigration laws .

Please what are the things to be done in order to join her as a dependant in the UK , I legally live in Lithuania, what are the documents I need to submit together with hers , I need advise about going about it .

Thanks

You hit the nail on the head bruv, even in Canada now they are feeling the heat as all the latest immigration measures are actually targeted at them. Truth be said they’ve always gotten away with so much until now even the h1b stuff is all about them as they always make up over 70% of h1b recipients yearly.

It may be worth checking here if you are entitled to free prescriptions. Just to save you a trip and a curt response from your GP. smiley

Jamesclooney:
Happy new year!

I’m looking for advice on navigating childcare costs in the UK. It’s looking like £1,400 monthly for nursery care (5 days a week) which is more than our mortgage! Bringing a parent or family member over to help isn’t an option for us. Key questions…
• Are childminders a more affordable and reliable option?
• For those working from home, can you manage watching a one-year-old while doing low-level tasks (no online meetings)? Is it realistic?
• Do people form social groups, or rely on elderly church members for shared childcare arrangements, like we do back home in Naija?

Also, I’ve noticed that childcare is often unavailable at short notice with almost 2yrs waiting list period. With so much pent up demand, could this be a viable business idea? Has anyone explored starting a childcare service or similar venture?

Thanks in advance!

As someone advise, create a safe area where your child can play, preferably somewhere you have a line of sight to see the child ok.

WFH is a good way to cut down the cost. Preferable you and your madam can alternate WFH days but spending a day or 2 at day care is not bad as it helps the child build social skills.

For WFH, get noise cancelling headsets, observe and note times your child will typically nap, require food or a nappy change and plan online meets and calls to exclude those times.

Buy plenty toys for the child, get an tablet for the child if not playing where the TV is. I restrict tablet use to when I have very important meetings where I don't want any background noise or distraction. Cartoon on tablets are good at keeping infants very engaged but also create some undesirable character behaviors if use if extensive, so I strongly restrict it to most important meetings.

Let your colleagues, bosses know you have an infant at home. Gives them a heads up for possible background noise and easier to ask to reschedule a meeting.
