For two long nights between May 15 and 16, Kubwat and Fungzai villages in Mangu Local Government Area, LGA, of Plateau State were killing fields. Terrorists unleashed mayhem on the villages, razing houses and foodstuffs, and killed no fewer than 100 persons mostly women and children.
So far, 50 bodies have been discovered. The death toll could rise as people were still running in droves from the sacked communities to Mangu town and beyond to seek refuge as of press time.
The lawmaker representing Mangu/Bokkos Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Mr Solomon Maren, said the attacks were among many in the constituency where 200 persons had been killed in the last four months.
The 100 lives wasted in Mangu are among the 63,111 that have been killed since outgoing President Muhammadu Buhari assumed office on May 29, 2015.
According to data obtained from the Nigeria Security Tracker, NST, a project of the Council on Foreign Relations’ Africa programme, the deaths arose from terrorism, banditry, Herders/farmers clashes, communal crises, cult clashes, and extra-judicial killings among others.
The NST documents and maps violence in Nigeria that is motivated by political, economic or social grievances. “Different groups in Nigeria resort to violence. The militant Islamist movement Boko Haram is active in northern Nigeria. Violence among ethnic groups, farmers, and herdsmen sometimes acquires religious overtones. A new generation of Niger Delta militants threatens war against the state. Government soldiers kill civilians indiscriminately. Police are notorious for extra-judicial murder,” it said.
The 63,111 death toll is conservative because only reported cases from multiple sources were included. And many cases are under-reported or not reported at all.
Thus, the NST statistics should be viewed as indicative rather than definitive.
Since the NST started the data on May 29, 2011, when former President Goodluck Jonathan was inaugurated, no fewer than 98,083 Nigerians had been killed.
When President Buhari assumed office on May 29, 2015, the cumulative number of people killed in Nigeria, according to the NST was 34,972. Since then, the death figure has risen to 98,083 as of May 16, 2023. Since 2015, Nigeria recorded the least killings in 2017 when 4618 persons died and the worst in 2021 when 10575 lives were wasted (see table).
However, the death tolls have been going down since 2022 when 9079 deaths were recorded.

And the sad reality is Tinubu is about to continue from where Buhari failed.....but as for me and my family, and whoever believe, This incoming Government will Favour us IJN!!
A man that was overthrown by his junior in the army that was who they claimed was a strong man and Jonathan a weak man. Buhari was never serious about the presidency he only want to be in that position just like an average fulani always think that the country belongs to them and that they need to head everything. Thank God I wasn't among those who believed he could performed magic in 2015

That’s almost the entire population of the beautiful tourist island country of Seychelles killed under buhari and Nigeria is not in a war situation . I am glad the news was brought by an Agbado brain
One thing is sure, that after May 29th 2023 Nigerians from all ethnic groups are going to file lawsuit against President Buhari on different matters particularly for violating the electoral law by showing the public that he voted for APC and Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The federal and State governments refuse to publish crime states for a reason. It's clear the data would lead to tough conversations people in government don't want to have. This especially true when it comes to who is doing the crimes. Keep in mind Nigeria doesn't report certain demographic information about criminals like tribe.
What you would need to compare is per 100k numbers to get apples to apples comparison between states and countries. This something the lazy NBS never did when the published crime stats. They just release aggregate numbers.

If you guys believe these numbers then you're saying Nigeria is as safe as Europe most years or slightly safer than the United States every year. This is why it's important to do per 100k stats. This seems unlikely when Kaduna's 2021 homicide rate is 13.39 per 100k. I doubt the surrounding states homicide rate is much better than theirs.

Your record is not accurate. Ipob/esn killed lots of people during your years in review. Where are they? Expecially Igbos that Ipob/esn killed are too many. Those that also got themselves killed through nkpurimiri and other illegal drugs. Ipob/esn factions split and started killing and eating themselves. Is it still Buhari that killed them? Your analysis is incorrect before Ipob/esn got promoted to number 10, do you know how many igbos that have been killed? Is it Buhari that sent them? Keep joking!

If they know that the figure is underrepresented, why give a misleading headline?
This figure is very underrepresented. They didn't take into account the number of people that hunger killed, the number of people that depression caused by this demonic government's policies killed. They don't record the number of people that unemployment killed, the number of people that the failed healthcare killed. Buhari is a sparogative and a colossal failure. The death toll is way higher than this.
