Samantha124:Well like others had said goat meat isn't cheaper buy I was actually talking about the entire goat not a pound or kilo.. All the same the goats and sheeps are cheaper to buy here in South Africa than a cow.. The reason we buy sheep for smaller occasions and buy meat from spar to supplement it or even add wors.. mostly cos we are inviting fellow south African friends. Well all south Africans love beef... I repeat all except vegetarians.. It's as if in ur previous life time.. ya all were deprived of meat or during the apartheid regime... ya all were deprived of it.. Well am only trying to buttress how much South Africans love meat in any form. |

But why eat animal coat when they're a variety of food that you can eat? I thought you guys said chicken feet and intestines are poor people's food, but you eat animal coat... The same coat that is used to make leather clothes and shoes here... Lamb and sheep are normal food in most countries worldwide. FairlyUSEDpussy: |

Is he or she still active here though? Because I've never seen the monicker around here since I registered on nairaland. Same goes for XhosaNostra, I didn't mention her because she's no longer active here. KingCold: |
Re: List Of South African Foods by Nobody: 4:50am On May 23, 2023 |
I want to understand something, when you buy your goat meat, do you buy it in a supermarket or you have to buy a whole complete live goat and then have it slaughtered? Because I don't think our supermarkets have goat meat, or maybe I don't pay attention, I don't know... So far when you see a South African eating goat meat, it was bought alive and slaughtered. I've never seen Nigerian food without meat in it, so I'm surprised when you guys keep saying we love meat too much in SA. ghettochild: |

Lagosianswag: Fair enough argument. But I don't think she has said these foods were being served in their own restaurants too. It might just be what they eat in their pots at home. |

Samantha124:We eat fish as well n ya all don't fancy it that much. U prefer meat anytime anyday...most of the packaged fish sold at OBC are been bought by foreigners and it doesn't move(marketing&sales) like meat does. Concerning whether in Nigeria we buy goat meat whole(live) or in batches.. I'd say both.. For those doing business of cooking goat or using it daily. They buy in batches or they buy a whole goat n have a butcher come to their kitchen to kill it.. or they kill from the abbatoir or where the goat seller does slaughter n resell. I remember making some Girl bck in 2018 like hake fish.. Cos I usually fry it n it taste nice n crunchy.. And I don't think she's ever personally cooked it That one..like nigerians till thy kingdom come Even has a child for a Nigerian now. 1 Like |

I'm actually talking about here in SA, how do you Nigerians buy your goat meat? Because I don't think we do have the meat in our food stores. And for your information, I love fish.. ... Both fried and tinned fish, but I don't consider it as our native food, hence I didn't post it... It kept me alive during my University days..πππ.. we usually call tinned fish campus food.. I think our love for meat comes from our Khoisan ancestors because they're well known hunters, but I still haven't seen any Nigerian food without meat. ghettochild: |

It was interesting and so much fun. π Below are pictures of palm oil and the nuts it's gotten from (palm kernel). It's rich in vitamin E and antioxidants. It also gives our soups their rich red colour.
