Igbos and Yorubas can never unite politically, and they would always banter, be at logger heads and even sabotage each other where the opportunity arises.

The genesis was the Azikiwe-NCNC-Awolowo feud pre-independence. The bigger fallout is that Igbos feel bitter and OPENLY blame Yorubas for their losses in the civil war, and have since built a culture and generational sentiments around this. This is why igbos subconsciously detest and blame the Yorubas at every opportunity. Had first hand experiences about this while transversing the southeast years ago.

Even at the international levels and awards, or on social media igbos subconsciously get triggered when Yorubas win or receive accolades. They lash out and claim there must be a mistake or at worse some complicity among the organizers. Or when foreigners or other tribes pass good remarks about the Yorubas and their culture, igbos go above and beyond to de-market the Yoruba culture calling it pretentious. This is the first leg or side of the problem.

The second leg or side is that the Yorubas do not back down, especially after they observe and conclude that igbos hate them. They return the favor. This may take time but once they come to that realization that the other people are inconsolable over any matter- they simply return the favor and would likely give an overdose of the same medicine they were trying to combat.

Individual Yoruba and Igbo friends won’t have any major issues as they learn how harmless the other really is. However, some sentiments will always filter into and becloud some of their interactions and judgments due to these foundational and generational sentiments that have become the norm.

This is why as 2 different blocks, Yorubas and igbos are unlikely to ever work together politically. They are diametrically opposite in their cultures, interactions and approach to life.

I was at a popular market today when I overheard some group of men ranting about how one tribe are betrayals and cowards wanting to have everything for themselves without working for it, while at this discussion someone replied them and said " make una sef go back build una place b4 una build another man place" make you leave our land nah" . A heated argument started and it almost turned into a feud which would have turned into a riot if not for the timely intervention of the market union workers. Let's stop this evil please, we are all southerners we can stand as one and make the south a better place without hurting each other. You could hardly see a Hausa man harassing a Fulani man, they have their differences but they love each other. I myself have learnt to avoid any form of argument pertaining to tribe. Even if you insult and curse my tribe I will just walk away and still show you love. It happens a lot at my place of work, where 85% of staff are one tribe dominated ( I don't want to mention which tribe so as to curb been bias) I receive friendly insults pertaining to being my tribe daily, any little mistake, you will just hear someone say " nah we dey feed una, una wey no fit hustle" nah Bleep dey una system". Sometimes I am forced to throw hurtful jabs at them but I have learnt to accommodate and swallow those insults with pride.
