Angelfrost:Stop this nonsense, there are some section of economy that provides essential service they never close anywhere in the world and the list of service providers the posters mentioned falls under them Find another job if you think its slavery, a nation can not move forward if essential services providers does not open 24/7 |

Flier: The nonsense is actually for you. No one said they should close for any reason... I even posted above that essential services can't close, but the staff manning those days should be remunerated for extra hours which is hardly done by most employers in Nigeria... That's called slavery and exploitation! If you are not well informed, ask questions! Essential or non-essential services, overtime is overtime! And it should be well remunerated and special time consideration placed on it or even outsourced! If you do some research, I'm almost certain there is a constitutional provision for it! I know for a fact that this is done in all government establishments! The fact that some private establishments default is because laws are not enforced and people like you who don't know their left from their right see nothing wrong in exploitation! What do I even know... Maybe you are one of such employers of essential services that exploit people of their time without proper remuneration in cash or kind! |

Re: Is Not Giving Employees Public Holidays Modern Slavery? by Olumaeme: 4:33pm On May 27, 2023 |
You don't know what slavery means. Did you sign your contract at a gunpoint? Are you prevented from leaving or resigning? All jobs are not the same. Millitary don't operate like agencies or parastatals. Health care and manufacturing don't operate like Insurance companies. This should be clear enough. |

Hambivert: They dont need to set up boards because, we already have boards meant to checkmate companies that abuse their workers right but they are not doing anythin, some are just there to be collecting salary. |

mamawa123:I understand his plights. Me personally, I can't work in a company without structures for time-offs, public holidays, sick leaves and due compensations for overtime when applicable. Funny enough, it's organizations that don't pay well that would want to over work their staff. |
Re: Is Not Giving Employees Public Holidays Modern Slavery? by fkj950ax(m): 6:57pm On May 27, 2023 |
Herdamorlar: Private companies do not have to follow public holidays that are majorly built around public or civil servants. The companies you listed are ALL service industry companies. The cannot go on holiday or close their doors. Even during these holidays, people patronise and increase demand for the services of these companies. So if the workers are giving holidays, then what happens. They have shifts (Days on and Days Off} to cater for weekend and holidays. Everything is not about fighting for the people. Leadership is not about FIGHT and PROTEST always If you don't want to work weekends or during holidays, I suggest you find employment in industries or companies STRICTLY that do M-F / 9-5. Nobody forced you to take a job at where you work. You can easily resign as you easily applied for a job there. |

unmask: more how? should hotel workers stop working on public holiday and close the hotels? should policemen stop working on public holidays and let criminals run the city? should hospital workers stop working on public holidays and let patents die? should airport staff stop working on public holidays and let people stranded at the airport and/or have plane crash (because sky controllers would be on the beach sipping cocktails while there would be nobody to direct plane to land/takeoff)? |
Re: Is Not Giving Employees Public Holidays Modern Slavery? by fkj950ax(m): 9:10pm On May 27, 2023 |
Carot: There is no ideal work roster. It can’t be a one size fits all. Different industries or sectors of an economy comes with different work patterns. Should doctors and nurses not work weekends and public holidays? How will people even have a public holiday if the fuel stations and tourist locations and entertainment centers are all closed during weekends because the staff deserves weekend and holidays also? Should airport workers and commercial transport workers also be off weekends and public holidays? |
