This is why countries in middle east discourages association or union. Once they have union, they can use that to attack any government, and spread their narratives. All that marketers ever think of is their interest, that's why we need a a process in place to attack this unionism that holds the collective interest of the people under their control. For instance, if government discourages tokunbo cars, those ones will triple their prices, just to inflict pains on the consumers as a way of sending message to the government, but we all know it is to profit their pockets.

Bros, I disagree, unions despite thier bullshyts are the only group powerful enough to easily influence the govt...The easiest & less violent ways for citizens to get Thier rights and what's due for them.

Now greedy unions like d marketers etc..can be countered extremely easily by d govt, If they soo wish, that's what DPR( they seem to forget thier jobs) is for, d NNPC retail outlets are also thier to reduce that influence

The NNPC’s so-called “backing” is neither necessary nor required…

It’s the LAW! The end of the subsidy regime is compulsorily MANDATED by the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA), which provided for a transition period (that was further extended by an amendment of the PIA by the NASS) ending as from June 1. Can Nigerians just behave as if Nigeria is actually a nation of laws instead of this foolishness of “backing” by all manner of characters.

Even Tinubu himself CANNOT subsidize fuel pricing in Nigeria as from June, without breaking the law!

Nigerians are some of the most wicked folks I have ever come across.
Tomorrow we will blame the government but we are our own problem.

Answer this question with all sincerity, if you are an oil marketer will you hoard your petrol or not?

Answer the question to yourself. We all Nigerian are the same. It's called poverty mentality. Nigerian have been poor for too long hence the high rate of criminality and corruption.

Just imagine the way it was announced, Knowing how Nigeria works.

Which ever way it was announced, it is about the wickedness of Nigerians , they have no justification to create any artificial scarcity.
There is fuel, why should they hoard it??

Don’t get me twisted. Not making any excuse.

Buhari already removed the subsidy. Tinubu only confirmed it to us yesterday that it’s gone already! These fuel marketers knows subsidy is gone already! Their motive is just to make more money, nothing else!

Then why doesn't the government just declare its removal.
Why the pussy footing. This lack of clarity destabilizes any system.
When you make declarations on issues as critical as energy prices you have to be precise and detailed because markets are watching and markets of whatever kind will react one way or the other. This is common sense economics.

He made a declaration yesterday. I expected that either he or his spokesmen will have gone further with when and how to ensure this kind of thing does not happen. Uncertainty will cause panic anywhere. Nigerians are economically stressed and it will be disingenuous to blame them for panic.

Be seriously informed. Energy prices will account for the bulk of the common's man expenses going forward. Government has to be super serious about it.

Nigerians are their problems sometimes, there is no budget for subsidy, the bill was passed by lawmakers representing every state and local areas, now you people are blaming Tinubu. No budget was passed for subsidy, it's a systemic thing now, a bill was passed and subsidy was abolished or removed from our laws and books. Nairaland is filled with kids, and a lot of propanganda machineries, who enjoy abusing the president and causing disaffection online. Unpatriotic entities are a threat to a nation. You must be patriotic, it's your obligation.

The situation now is there’s no fuel scarcity. They’re only hoarding fuel to make more profit! They’ve bought a subsidized fuel and they must sell it at the normal rate!

Bro, don't worry.let them buy to hold,in the just coming months,Dangote Refineries will flood the Market, may be then, they will be wasting the ones they have been hoarding.
Indeed, times is changing,we may have to learn in hard way, unless we amend our ways!

Haaa

The country has been wasting too much on subsidy

And it was not panic buying, it was filling stations that locked their gates and began hoarding fuel.

Why is government not dealing with this fuel stations? If na bank, CBN will be flexing muscles.
The government should deal with this idiots making life unbearable for their fellow citizens because they want to exploit and make 1000% profit margins

See sycophants everywhere. Is Melee kyari saying that Buhari has been doing the wrong thing for the lats 8 years and it is now to welcome Tinubu's policy. Even Kyari fed fat on subsidy. Don't worry, Tinubu will treat your Bleep up.

The NNPC will always welcome subsidy removal, with the PIA , the subsidy regime does not make sense, it will stifle the growth of the downstream sector which the NNPC does not want because the PIA commercializes the petroleum industry, but NNPC can make the decision it is only the Ministry of Petroleum resources.

This is not a matter of panic buying but just that over 90% of the filling stations have locked up and the rest are selling at minimum of N350 per liter

Lemme expantiate...

U bought fuel at 200naira a litre including landing cost, everything amount to 20million naira..
U we're selling at 220naira govt approved price till govt said there won't be subsidy anymore.
Once the new price is announce, the margin might be more than 400naira from the 220 u we're selling.

Add 400naira to 220, the new landing cost will be 620naira...

Now u were buying ur goods to sell with 20million naira, today with the new price regime,u need 45million naira to bring in the same quantity of goods to ur filling station.

If these station owners sell all their products at the old price and make gain of the old price regime, they will need to add 25million naira to buy new products...
Will customers or govt give them the cash?
