Hope you know buhari didn't make provisions for subsidy in the budget, TINUBU did the right thing to let Nigerians know what is on ground immediately. It's like an ambush to new administration
tinubu did the right thing you say? A reasonable leader should have first thought about the outcome of each move before making the move, we all knew there was no subsidy how about you meet the markerters and players in the industry first talk to them and agree on terms before making that reckless statement, that is not even the kind of statement you make on your first day on the job, the way he said he like he was trying to impress the masses, when a wise leaders should have known how delicate the issue of subsidy is, 24 hrs after the presidency has gone radio silent, the same hide and seek tactics of the buhari administration is just playing out already.

Cue the complaints because that is all Nairalanders know how to do.

I’m one of the minority who believe fuel should be 1k per litre. Nigerians should be encouraged to commute using bicycles.

This opens the opportunity for Dangote to crash prices due to Nigeria finally refining its raw material. What a shame. Sixty-three years before the country did the needful.

Do you know an individual or people on that street cannot fix their roads without payment for approval from the govt ?

Is it cheaper to pay for approval collectively or to buy an suv?

Any policy/decision that is made with taking into consideration the wicked nature of Nigerians in order not to suffer the common man is unwise. Tinubu just opened his mouth waaah to spew out subsidy removal without putting up any mechanism to tackle the effect is just unwise. Thank GOD everyone is hearing the sound of the music.

Have you ever tried to fix roads in this country? From your personal funds? You will be shocked to find out that you need government approval to do so. And people within the government will demand huge bribes for that. So if you had say a billion to fix the road, with bribes it will cost you 3bn. And that doesn't include the cost of maintaining and keeping the roads motorable after they have been built. Any rational person would rather go for the cheaper option of buying an SUV instead of spending an endless amount of money bribing government officials

Now what do we do about that situation? Is there no feasible solution to corrupt office hosts in government in any part of the world? With this mentality of giving up at the slightest challenge when are we going to get the country we desire? It takes effort and intentional work to move away from a bad situation

I’m not a fan on Tinubu, but I’m forced to believe this removal of fuel subsidy is only to favor Dangote and those who will benefit from it. Dangote was never going to operate his refinery with subsidy, otherwise he would go broke.
That said, if you’re among those who voted PBAT, don’t feel guilty he imposed subsidy removal, feel guilty because he did so to favor a single individual.

Is it Dangote that would pay for the subsidy or Federal Government? Some of you are so dull it is amazing how you're able to log onto NL.

So the government has to budge first. If they can totally do away with corruption by their officials then that would be a good start. I know how many times I have tried to interface with government for private intervention in fixing roads leading to my village. I'm talking at least 16 years. Would you consider that "giving up at the slightest challenge"?. I don't think so

You were selling at 240 before the announcement, meanwhile you still have some old supply, why increase your selling price to 400 immiedately after the announcement just because you want to raise enough money to purchase at the new market price? It is only proper that when the old supply of 240 is exhausted, then you buy and sell at the new market price.
In business if u have 1 commodity, progress is when u can sell and purchase at least 1.1 or 1.2 next time. In a situation when ur budget can get you only 0.9 or 0.8 of the 1 u had then that’s shortage or loss.

Yes, it's cheaper INDIVIDUALLY to buy an SUV than to pay for approval. Just like it's "cheaper" for each individual to buy a small generator than to for everyone to contribute to provide infrastructure to get electricity to our homes.

So let's make this a bit more practical. Assume you sell noodles today at ₦100 per sachet. You bought at ₦80/sachet. And you were selling say 100 sachets daily for total revenue of ₦10,000 daily. And you now have information that when you go to buy new stock, you will buy at say ₦150/sachet. Would you still keep selling at ₦100/sachet knowing that when you finish that stock, you will only be able to buy say 60 sachets and sell maybe 45 sachets at say ₦180/sachet. Would you still sell old stock at old price? Or would you immediately increase your price for old stock?

For sure! Landlords nationwide are going to increase rents. Market women are going to increase their prices. Bus drivers are going to increase their fares. Schools will increase school fees. DSTV will increase subscription. Even Ashana and Telcos go increase their prices

Nigerians complain about everything. What are you on about? Irrespective of when you feel the subsidy should be removed, the greedy sellers will still act the same way they are acting now because according to you it's 'business'
