Can Subsidy Removal Crash The Nigerian Economy? by abhosts(m): 1:19pm On May 31, 2023
Many Nigerians have now realized how Petrol is intrinsically linked to every facet of the economy. Poor and unreliable public power supply makes most poor and middle-class Nigerians rely on petrol generators to carry out their daily tasks that require electricity.

Removing Petrol Subsidy without a viable alternative on ground, could spell doom for the Nigerian Economy. Telling suffering Nigerians to trust corrupt politicians and saying that savings made from subsidy removal would be invested into Infrastructure and Jobs would simply not fly.

It is really surprising that none of the top Presidential Aspirants brought forth any well articulated multi-pronged plan regarding subsidy removal. Even the much taunted Peter Obi repeated the stance of Buhari(Before he became President) that subsidy was a scam and would be ended immediately.

It would be wise if the government suspends the subsidy removal and embarks on national drive to create a viable alternative for the masses. Removing all import duty on all equipment and hardware linked to renewable sources of energy would be a good start. When solar panels and batteries are affordable for most Nigerian, the reliance on petrol would be greatly reduced.

The subsidy needs to go I was for it during Jonathan's time, I am for it now. Jonathan was weak that's why it wasn't successful as educated as he is. All he should have done was make sure he there is an alternative means for people to get to work.
