Diablo 4 Guide: Leveling Your First Character And Progression Tips by cammyaustillgoz(f): 4:13am On Jun 06, 2023
With the launch of Diablo 4, many players are venturing into Sanctuary for their first playthrough. Whether you're a series veteran or a newcomer, this guide aims to help you make the most of your first romp through the campaign with your first character. We'll provide tips on the best levelling path, delve into side quests, and discuss tracking your progress through the zones. Let's dive in and ensure you enjoy your Diablo 4 experience fully.

Levelling Your First Character:
To save you time, let's get straight to the point. The best approach for levelling and playing the game for the first time is to focus on the main story quests. Ignore most of the side quests unless they particularly appeal to you. By pushing through the main story, you can easily reach Level 50. Completing some dungeons along the way will further enhance your leveling progress. Once you've completed the story on your first character, you won't need to replay it on subsequent characters.

Progressing to Nightmare Difficulty:
After completing the main story, your next progression point is Nightmare difficulty. To unlock Nightmare, complete the Cathedral of Light Capstone dungeon and reach World Tier 2 on the veteran difficulty setting. Once you achieve this, Nightmare difficulty becomes accessible. This is where you can obtain unique Diablo 4 items and gain more experience. Note that Nightmare difficulty requires a higher level, so ensure you reach Level 50 before progressing.

Unlocking Region Progression and Side Quests:
During your first playthrough, it's essential to focus on region progression. As you progress through each location in the main story quests, you will unlock skill points for your character. Complete each location's first point of region progression to unlock these free skill points. Additionally, side quests can provide valuable experience and rewards. While completing all side quests is unnecessary, they can help reach higher levels. Consider your time constraints and personal preference when tackling side quests.

Tracking Progress through Altars of Lilith:
To keep track of your progress and collectables, we recommend using a tool like Map Genie. This tool allows you to map out the altars of Lilith, waypoints, and dungeons. It's particularly useful for locating the altars of Lilith, which are crucial for levelling and unlocking bonuses. Collecting these statues not only grants experience but also unlocks rewards account-wide. Utilize Map Genie or other similar resources to track your progress effectively.

Leveling Subsequent Characters:
You can create a new character once you've completed the campaign on your first character and reached Level 50. You can skip the campaign and start directly in the game world this time. Remember that skipping the campaign means you won't obtain your mount until later in the game. However, if you've already played the beta or previous betas, you can level up quickly by running dungeons and completing side quests. Just be aware that your new character won't have access to the mount right away.

Conclusion:
In conclusion, we hope this guide helps you navigate your first character's journey in Diablo 4. Remember, there is no definitive right or wrong way to play the game. You can choose your preferred playstyle, whether that involves completing every quest, exploring all dungeons, or focusing solely on the main story. Diablo 4 offers a vast array of build options and gameplay approaches, allowing you to have a truly enjoyable experience. Embrace the game and have fun on your adventure in Sanctuary!
