The former world leader in the mobile phone industry; nokia,has rolled out it's latest symbian^3 update - belle announced on august 24 2011 in a continuous efforts to quench the steady users drift from it's beloved but allegedly fading platform - symbian to the alien that invaded the mobile phone market not too long ago - google's android popularly known as the droid. Early this year, nokia's CEO formerly in microsoft's employ- stephen elop made a deal with microsoft in a bid to use it's windows phone OS as Nokia's basic platform for it's future mobile devices after it's maemo OS raised no dust and the meego project with intel still cooking in the kitchen. Still struggling to bring it's beloved symbian up from it's sick bed while waiting for WP7/8 and Meego to mature coupled with nokia's strong will not to embrace android as it's mobile os ( for fear of google monopolising the mobile phone industry which they think will be a very bad development), nokia rolled out it's symbian^3 os to precede the aged s60 platform. This new platform received a 'boo' when placed alongside android. Six months later, the anna update for symbian^3  platform was unleashed which has an improved UI and browser enhancements but it also gave users not quite a stir; however, given the unbeatable hardware quality synonymous to nokia, many users accepted anna as their bride and just three months into their honeymoon with anna, nokia unleashed belle and got it's users eying the new girl :-). Actually the workdone on this new symbian^3 update is superb enough to get android and iphone worried a bit since it allegedly copied some features from android and iphone although some sources maintains with some prove that nokia didn't copy from android but rather from nokia's maemo and meego(still in development). This really got analyst to question whether nokia's decision to slowly drop symbian and move onto windows phone os was all that good as a strategy? And also another question is that if nokia can almost bridge a yawning chasm between symbian and android/iphone in roughly a year's period, where would android and iphone stand if they continue at this pace? But  clearly, nokia is about divorcing the love of it's youth -symbian by 2016 atleast and given this trend, the applications for symbian in the ovi/nokia store is not triving as it was few years back as compared to what now obtains for iphone and android. But the symbian belle showed that apart from the ever faithful commitment of nokia to symbian, symbian can become competitive again if given the chance.
