Things to note:

- Yoruba = Oyo
- Oke-Odan = Egba (most likely Owu-Egba since there’s also Egba in the census).
- Jebu = Ijebu
- Ketu = Yorubas from Republic du Benin
- Popo = another group of Yorubas from Republic du Benin + Ogus (Eguns).
- Lagos = Saros and Amaros.

Finally, it shows almost Yoruba subgroups have always been in Lagos, from Ijeshas, to Egbas, to Aworis, to Oyos, to Ijebus, to Ondo, to Ife, all the way to Yorubas from Republic du Benin and most likely Togo. The only non-Yorubas who co-existed with Yorubas albeit in very small numbers were Tapas (Nupes) and Hausas.

Wait this was not known before?

A lot of people forget that before 1967, most of Lagos was just the island. It was when Lagos state was created that Ikeja, Agege, Mushin, Ikorodu, Epe, Surulere, and Badagry were added after cutting them out of the bold western region.

These areas are actually larger than half Lagos state and these areas were previously in Ogun state.

Anyone who thinks the only indigenous of Lagos state are the Eguns and the Lagos Island folks is just playing around.

This means that the Aworis, Egbas, Ijebu and Oyo who owned farmlands, fishing villages and also generational land in these areas automatically because indigenes of both Ogun and Lagos or Oyo and Lagos.

Examples include Yayi, Obasa and Hamzat.

Maybe me as my family has village in Ogun and also a homestead in Ikeja

The socalled census you referred to wasn't actually Lagos because Lagos as at then was a very tiny island. It was around 1967 or I think after the war due to state creation that so many independent places were cut and added to what it's now known as Lagos today.

That seemed to be the beginning of the problems of Lagos .

The addition of parts of ogun to Lagos without resettling the inhabitants of Lagos is / was the genesis of the problems of lagos city/ state.

This is why I have proposed a new commercial city for Nigeria between Abuja and kogi state in the vast uninhabited areas or around Northern part of cross river. Where the indigenes can be resettled. So Nigeria can move forward.

Imagine attaching parts Niger, kaduna and kano to Abuja and forming a state out of it. The whole world will not have peace . The dragging of Lagos will be a child's play compared to how hausa and fulani (ganduje and kwankwaso kind of drag) would drag Abuja with anyone and everyone.

If your state of origin is not Lagos, shut up, you're not indigenous. Because Lagos exists, all Yoruba people have turned indigenes

Egun are not yoruba.
Secondly, the census clearly called them 'Oyo yoruba' indicating they are native to oyo yet you call them indigenes.
Following your logic it would be safe to call everyone captured in today census an indigene of Lagos. No one proves Lagos a no-man's-land more than Yorubas.

Some people have allowed tribal bigotry to block their brains.

You are only an indigene of your state of origin. You can't come from Iragbiji and start claiming to be an indigene of Lagos state.

You know anytime you guys come up with this claim that Lagos was just a tiny island I start laughing, Lagos airport was built during the second world war between 1939 to 1945 and that airport is at Ikeja and it was called Lagos airport, why didn't they call it Ogun, Oyo, midwest or southwest airport, that was because all that region was already mapped out as Lagos, Lagos was the capital city of Nigeria from 1914 until 1991.

The creation of Lagos state in 1976 was just an amendment of status which made it a state and FCT at the same time, FCT restricted to the island and the state with its governor covering other parts of Lagos, The name Eko originally was Lagos Island but the name Lagos was more than Lagos Island, that is why the Airport that was built around 1940's was called Lagos airport in Ikeja.

For the second part of you guys claim on Indigenous people of Lagos, if you are not an indigene you're not an indigene, the census there is like every census that they count people and draw data from where they come from, there are Hausas there and Nupe people, would you call them indigenes?

You guys are just trying to force things to be, It is like an Egba man going to Ondo state to start claiming indigene because he lives there, The trouble you guys are about to cause if that law is passed will affect a whole lot of things because the question that will be up in everybody's lips is who is an indigene and who is not, a whole new revelation will start which might bring a whole lot of conflict...

Interpret Lagosians or indigenes anyway you want for your convenience, It is a fight between outsiders trying to ramota.

Lagos is a very small village and even a small state. They all know one another and define themselves.

These your silly arguments to disprove the obvious can only work against outsiders. You will be shown your way out. How successful have you been so far compared to your grandparents who know their place. The harder you try to claim what is not yours, the more you lose.

All the goodwill your humble grandparents built have evaporated!

The colonial report of 1898

Open and study it details earnings from agricultural produce
From the entire West of Nigeria that we now call SW

Oyo was Taken in 1895, Ilorin in 1897 and the entire place that later became known as Western Region was administered by Britain under an administrative entity. Known as ".

Colony and Protectorate of Lagos"
= Colony of Lagos. + Protectorate of Lagos

As such Lagos meant anything all the way to Oyo. Lagos colony was The capital
So even if t the airport was built in Abeokuta in 1945 It would still be Lagos

The area East of the Niger was administered as Southern Nigeria Protectorate with Calabar as Capital

The two were merged in 1906
And renamed

Colony and Protecorate of Southern Nigeria

Under British law there was a difference between Colony and Protectorate.
A Colony treaty was signed with the Oba of Lagos. Whilst the rest of the South was a Protectorate

I don't have time to explore that in detail save to say that Colony was a Crown Possession and people whose parents were born in Lagos Colony can still claim British citizenship.

Not COULD
Open the report
I assert with 100 % certainty that Until 1906

The Area was Colony and Protectorate of Lagos in British law
They were two distinct entities administered with the Colony as Capital.
That arrangement persisted in 1906 when the two Southern Colonies were merged and in 1914 till independence. When the official title was
Colony and Protectorate of Nigeria
Colony referred to Lagos as it then was . Based on the 1861 Treaty it was the property of the British Monarch

Learn today ,if you never knew, that the rest of the country LEGALLY was never a Colony in British law but a Protectorate

Lagos Airport was built at Ikeja because the National Government had run out of Land on Lagos Island the Capital as far back as the 1870s when Glover had to beg the Oloto of Otto to settle the Ifole Riots Refugees at Ebutte Meta

More that 95% of lagos was carved out of the Western Region

Only lagos Island was the FCT

Below is the 1962 map of lagos

the dot at the bottom was where the lagos Island Capital Was all the rest was under the western region

You can see that more than 97% of Today’s lagos was in Awolowo’s western region

Even lagos Island was handed back to Awolowo as part of the western region at Independence

the western region allowed the National Government to Continue using lagos Island as the Capital only out of Consideration for the National interest

Even Lagos Island was Yoruba Awori Territory

I only used a landmark project such as the Lagos airport to counter the claim you guys made that Lagos was only the island and other parts like Ikeja were not part of Lagos till Lagos state was created in 1976, please note the dates I was very specific with my dates and my dates did not exceed between 1939 and 1991 which covered the period you guys were using to give credence to your claims.

my points were only raised in regards to the period of time you guys said which is 1976 both before and after, so for you to start talking about protectorate and 1880's is already way of out of when Lagos was even made FCT which is totally out of the range of discussion

Also if Lagos airport you claim was built in Oyo or Ogun please provide a document or article as at the time of it's construction to back up your claim and I will provide mine to prove to to you that it was built in Lagos as part of Lagos and had nothing to do with Oyo or Ogun state

Lastly you are so uncouth, learn to argue without insults....
