Life they say is always unfair, if I lied ask the outdated whip of the NA who despite his money and fame could not enrich himself with the coveted seat in the Senate, the SP. Nevermind in using HE Mr Kalu to project my assertion that will be introduced below. Same goes for many of us, life event might be unfair in one way or the other. Enough of digression- with few different human stories that I have personally encountered in life, not too few but stories aplenty, am particularly touched with the humaneness that comes with the student loans in our country. Nobody should expect it to take off smoothly at the first instance but with periodical modification and application of lessons learnt here and there will make it have impact down the ladder. My personal reflection way back can remind me and plenty of our readers uncountable numbers of brilliant student that faltered along the way and become school dropout due to loss of their sponsors ( parents, breadwinner, uncle, father and sister etc etc) despite many of them have the potentials to make it through if a financial help can come through. Helplessness and hopelessness becomes their reward in our society that doesn't routinely embrace philanthropy as a society value. Some of this unfortunate friends become ready made tools for prostitution and criminal world and when you ask them the readily available excuse they give are: nobody is there to fill in the gap. Many of us can remember, plenty of our colleagues nature did not smile to during their university education ( 0.05%) who lost their sponsors to death or loss of job despite their brilliance. Now, a ray of hope is at sight and a tablet that can cure our society malady of loss of sponsor is awoken in the student loan and my hope is that generations that will come after us will heap praises on us and at the same time eliminate the tags of wasted generation that Prof Soyinka ascribed to his peers that could not transfer a prosperous society to their immediate generations. End. |
