Ekiti elders to get monthly N5,000 social security

GOVERNOR Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti State has said that elderly people in the state will from this month receive monthly social security benefits from the state government to cater for their needs. They are also, in addition, entitled to the free health care service at the expense of the state government.

Fayemi said: “It is our expectation that this will further prolong the lives of our elderly in a state that is currently enjoying the highest life expectancy in the country”.

Fayemi said the N5,000 monthly stipend is in fulfillment of the governor’s promise for the senior citizens.

Beneficiaries of the gesture, the government said, are every adult of 65 years of age and above who are not currently a beneficiary of pension or of clear evidence of being taken care of by their family.

At the speech marking the 51st anniversary of Nigeria and th the 15 year of the creation of Ekiti State, Governor Fayemi, called on all Nigerians to join hands with government at all levels to fight those with nefarious activities that have killed innocent lives in the country. Fayemi believed that none of these unpatriotic individuals will escape divine judgment, considering the innocent lives that had been destroyed through their barbaric act.

While calling on the people of the state, he said though, the demands are much, his government has been able to gain some grounds based on the 8-point agenda and has also touched the lives of the citizenry.

The governor added that he had been able to provide security equipment and logistics to assist the security agency to fight crime and to ensure security of lives and property.

He said road had also received massive reconstruction and rehabilitation across the state and the resuscitation of moribund tourism centres in the state.

Fayemi, in his broadcast to st the state to mark Nigeria’s 51 Independence and 15th Anniversary of the state, said:
“Our agenda, when we started, was to rescue Ekiti from the pangs of pains of poverty – tackling want, creating wealth and restoring the dignity of the Ekiti people – culminating in an enriched state where poverty is history”.

He assured the people that in spite of the challenges since the government assumed office, “all certainly would be well in the foreseeable future”.

Fayemi called on the people to imbibe their core values and enormous intellectual capabilities to actual change and movement, palpable projects and structures and significant improvements in the quality of lives of our people”.

The governor said: “We have all it takes to change our story of insufficiency and want. The orientation has just begun. This is why this administration is vigorously pursuing the policies of citizens’ self actualization”.

He said: “As we celebrate today I bring to you the message of hope and assurance of a better tomorrow. The contract that this government signed with the good people at inauguration is to provide abundant life across the nooks and crannies of the land “We have tried to live up to your huge expectation but must admit that clearing the debris of many years of bad governance has taken a much longer time than we envisaged. But ours remain a determined quest to improve the lot of our people. With purposeful leadership in the driving seat and a cooperative populace, success is bound to be ours”.

The governor expressed joy that Nigeria came out of the challenges of nationhood more determined to forge ahead even as some continued the country’s demise, saying:
“Fifty one years after, God has kept the nation as an indivisible entity in spite of many challenges that almost brought her to knees in her chequered history”.

The Independence celebration was climaxed with match pass which involved the army, para-military organizations, the police, school children, trade organization and NGOs.

Prizes were later presented to winners of the match pass by the Governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, his Deputy, Funmi Olayinka and Erelu Bisi Fayemi.
