SAD!!!! Water Tank Falls off Stand Into Building, Crush 20 Year Old to Death , Injure Others.

One person has been confirmed dead while three others sustained internal injuries.
The incident happened at the early hours of Saturday morning at the Egbe-Idimu LCDA, Alimosho Local Govt Area of Lagos state.

The Grand mother of the deceased, Alhaja Yemisi Odejimi while narrating the ugly situation disclosed that their 20 years old son, Jamal Nureni was sleeping in a room with three others when suddenly they heard a loud sound from the ceiling.
“I just woke up to take my bath when suddenly I heard a loud sound and a noise coming from behind, I quickly put on my cloth and ran out.

Getting to the place, I realized that a water tank had fallen from the other compound into my son’s room, one of them was electrocuted and the other sustained injury, they were all taken to the general hospital where Jamal was confirmed dead”. She said.

One of the boys in the room also said that he was the only one who did not sustain any injury because he went out to observe his early morning prayers as a Muslim.

Speaking with the landlord and owner of the building from where the tank fell, O.B Taiwo, and the CDA chairman, we realized that they are taking the whole sad incident with a pinch of salt, carelessly saying “it is an accident, and can be settled between the the two families”; when in fact it should be treated as a matter of gross negligence on the landlord’s part...

One of the many the avoidable deaths. If only people pay attention to things around them.


In one of the places I lived some years ago, I kept telling the landlord that the overhead tank has shifted to one side and that it may fall due to the weight when water fills the tank. The tank stand is also rusted. Ironically, the man is a civil engineer. The man took everything for granted. Thank God I moved out and found peace of mind.

The said tank is close to one of my bedrooms. Whenever there is a strong wind I'll ask everyone to move to a safer place just-in-case.


May the deceased's family find comfort and may the inured recover well and quickly!

Oh Rabb, forgive the dead ones and the living too. Now that is one hell of a lawsuit/settlement for the deceased family if only they want to toe that path. We don't get sued enough in this country, thats why every avoidable incidence due to negligence is chalked up to God. This is sad.

We need to take safety serious in this part of the world.

Mostly it's the scaffold decking and soft sand texture that makes the tank to tilt and collapse.
Disaster was avoided in my hood when children were playing under such Tank!
Luckily the tank first gave a shifting sound as water was being pump into it. The children were barely able to escape to safety before it collapse! Boooomssssssshh!!!
Ever since, our estate association took it upon themselves to first give warning notice. If no action is taken by the owner, they dismantle such potential threat before it can wreck any significant havoc.

All these people forming landlord everywhere and building nonsense.
