Has Alex Otti Abandon Governance, Labour Party For Politics Of Survival? by Abiarevelation(f): 3:42pm On Jun 24, 2023
Few weeks after taking over as the Governor of Abia state, Abians have continued to express worry over the delay of the Governor in bringing good governance, inspite of his urgency to do so while he was yet to be sworn in.

A community leader from Obingwa Local Government Area, in Abia State, Chief Emmanuel Mbama, in an interview, asked where lies the urgency earlier exhibited by the Abia Governor to bring good governance to the people?

According to Mbama, it has been more than three lacklustre weeks and counting, the Governor assumed office yet nothing to show forth.

He said as the Labour Party Governor-elect, with few months to official swearing-in, the governor couldn't contain his impatience, as he was struggling with the then incumbent Governor of Abia State for authority.

His behaviour, Mbama stated, was akin to an emperor who conquered a territory and didn't take prisoners. "He was quick to almost assume the status of a Governor to the point of interfering with governance. He issued all manners of orders, threats and caution to a legitimate Government to extent, he once accused the government of treason. He gave countless press releases, warned appointees of government and civil servants alike who were on legitimate duties of government. Alex Otti operated like a power thirsty emperor.

"Several meetings of government functionaries were called on the instruction of Alex Otti, he summoned Executive of banks that do business with government, dished official position and orders on matters of government.

"Froze accounts of government and halted the planned local government elections, which was slated over two months before the 18th, March, 2023 gubernatorial and House of Assembly Election. He brought Executive officer of Julius Berger  construction company to examine the state of Portharcourt Road,  Aba, without having the full powers and  complement of a state Governor. He wanted Abians to feel the urgency to get started, even when there was a sitting Governor with two months to end of his tenure".

He said Gov Otti's thirst for power and undue interference, climaxed when he was issuing counter directives, which took the then, Governor Okezie Ikpeazu, through his Chief Press Secretary to remind Alex Otti that a legitimate government was still in power.

Mbama maintained that Abians were bewildered by the seeming hurry Gov Alex Otti displayed as the Governor-elect in his quest to take over power, even before time. "Conversely, the hurry has become more of a mirage three weeks after taking over power as the incumbent Governor. Many are left wondering what has happened to the urgency which was the hallmark of Otti's days as Governor-Elect. The absentee Governor has failed to urgently put out deliberate strategies, policies and programmes to direct his so called "emergency" government that would turnaround the fortunes of Abia State.

"Rather than attack problems head-on with practical solutions and required speed, which is majorly why Governors are elected, Alex Otti has started off slowly, demonstrated gross incompetence, weakness, unpreparedness and lack of knowledge thus far". Mbama says he is wondering why Otti is so mannerless, mentally arrogant, proud, full of himself, very deceptive, self-centred, mean-hearted, unforgiving, operationally vindictive and emotionally immature in almost everything.”

Mbama insisted that Governor Otti has slowed down completely and discarded the urgency with which he exhibited few weeks to his swearing-in, adding that Portharcourt Road, Aba has not been visited, while refuse management has overwhelmed the government that said it has a workable policy.

In his words, "An unusual disquiet and confusion has enveloped the State. The hitherto Urgency has since given way to dissolution of boards without recourse to statutory provisions of tenure, appointment of outsiders into positions for civil servants. Otti's government has been silent and seemingly cold without direction. Other state Governors, who didn't demonstrate such hurry have been able to put their states on the track quite early through their policies and programmes.

"Three weeks and still counting, Alex Otti has been unable to put out a single policy direction. His only achievement is seen in the undemocratic imposition of his Labour Party members as principal officers of the Abia State House of Assembly through the illegal suspension of the Standing Orders of the House as prescribed by the constitution.

"Alex Otti has always ignored playing by the rules, the Abia State House of Assembly proclamation debacle is a clear example. He is preoccupied and consumed by his parochial interest over matters of the State. Otti has been hobnobbing with APC top brass with hope of joining the party to evade his inevitable ouster by the court. He is willing to ditch Peter Obi and his Labour party insofar his personal interest is served.

"However, Alex Otti's shenanigan is not strange to those, he has been running to for political succour and survival. Mr. Peter Obi has been sacrificed by a desperate Otti on the altar of parochialism. On live television, Otti denied the influence of Obi-wave to his election, even as he glaringly used Peter Obi’s picture for all his billboards and posters. Abians didn't know who was Alex Otti's running mate as only Mr. Peter Obi's pictures were used instead. If he can comfortably ditch such a man so early, it is telling on the character of Alex Otti".

Mbama accused Gov Alex Otti of lacking integrity and obsessed by his personal interest that he is quick to discard Peter Obi, his benefactor, stating that his inauguration was without Obi on whose influence he rode on, but his godfather, Rotimi Amaechi and family with other strange bedfellows took the center stage.

He further alleged that Gov Otti has abandoned governance for political survival, knowing how bad a case he has at the Tribunal, pointing that his recent outing to the Lagos State government house on a visit to Governor Sanwolu,  could be traced to the rumoured desperation to get some APC chieftains to influence his Tribunal matter.

"Ordinarily, one would have thought that Alex Otti was in Lagos to see his brother Governor on issues concerning Ndigbo in Lagos, but he neither met igbos in lagos nor visited the markets marked for demolition.

"Back home in Abia State, Labour Party faithful are disappointed as only Abuja, Lagos and diasporians get appointed while the rest of Abians, civil servants are wondering what happened to his promises of clearing salaries a week after inauguration and making sure they no-longer go to bed hungry, despite the huge financial inflows received by his new government. The N24billion he received from stamp duties can easily settle their outstanding three months salaries . Abians are also wondering if their collective patrimony is not been wasted on his Tribunal matter .

"Alex Otti Where lies the urgency to bring about good governance",Mbama questioned.

Go and sit down. Most of all these political jobbers don't know what "due process" means. They think the President and Governors are Emperors.

The government comprises elected officials and appointed officials confirmed by the Legislature and commissioned to carry out the functions of the State.

What we need now is the composition of Federal and States Executive Councils for the business of the government to kick off.

Lol, just three weeks and paid online influencers are already writing meaningless articles to foam through the mouth? Please, leave the poor man alone to execute his mandate. It's only the voters that can judge his performance through their votes in the next election.

He's also doing his best to avoid Peter Obi. The silly misadventure of taking selfie with Mr Yaba-left was such a ridiculous move.

Igbos should pray that Otti succeeds because many of us are rooting for Otti to succeed.

The worst insults heaped upon Ndigbo are as a result of the activities of Abians. Ikpeazu kerosene, Ikpeazu 500 Naira for new mothers, dirty streets, refuse everywhere, TA Orji wearing pant in shrine, State owing doctors for 2 years, etc.
Abia state is a disgrace to the entire Ndigbo home and abroad and that shame needs to be taken away.

Otti must succeed. If he doesn't, it means Abia state is hopeless and can never get better.

The writer made some sense. Expectations were very high upon Otti's victory and assumption of office but right now, there's this air of despondency among Abians. Otti should start making impacts. Abians don really suffer, especially the civil servants.

The write up is good.
The governor should take note.

LP politicians are jittery, they might be removed by the court.

Also enugu governor may be removed by the court. LP actually won in the state. But if LP man is illegal candidate, the person that took third in the election will become the governor of the state.
