Can HIV Infect The Child In The Womb If The Mother Is Positive? by Fez555: 7:18am On Jun 25, 2023 |
Yes, HIV can be transmitted from an HIV-positive mother to her child during pregnancy, childbirth, or breastfeeding. This type of transmission is known as mother-to-child transmission (MTCT) or vertical transmission. However, with appropriate medical interventions and treatment, the risk of transmission can be significantly reduced. HIV can cross the placenta and infect the fetus during pregnancy. The virus can also be transmitted during childbirth as the baby passes through the birth canal, which may contain HIV-infected fluids or blood. 1) There is medication given to.the child at birth to prevent the transmission of the hiv from the mother to.the child 2) Also the mother needs to book and register for antenatal earlier during the Pregnancy and alway tell the Healthcare providers she is hiv positive whenever she goes to the hospital |
