My own is why is B.Sc in UK just 3 years while here in Nigeria, B.Sc is 4yrs.

Some B.Sc courses in Nigerian Universities are even 5yrs. Medicine is 7 yrs.

The main purpose of Hons is to differentiate the class of degree! Anyone that graduated with 3rd class or pass cannot have Hons but only B.Sc or B.A degree, but those with 2.2(second class lower up to 1st class will always have Hons infront of their B.Sc or B.A irrespective of wether they had extra or not before graduation)!

Problem with all this over sabi people above forming woke is that what they claim to know may actually be the wrong meaning to the question asked. Note that no one is an island and there is nothing wrong in wanting to learn in humility.

There is obviously nothing wrong with wanting to learn in humility. I myself started with such a degree but dropped out and I googled the meaning in my first year, however everyone is different.

The only reason I’m awed is the op said he used the internet and still couldn’t find the answer. My ten year old cousins can do that. You have to admit, that is quite worrisome.


A simple Google search with give you over 12 answers immediately, I believe this post is attention seeking.

Generally, B.sc with Honors is considered higher than just B.sc.

Here is why, I have a Bachelor's degree in xxxxx, with honors in Business management. My certificate says B.sc xxxxx, Honors in Business. Therefore, I studied in two different faculties/departments to have a Bachelor's degree in one department and honors in business from another department.

In some countries like South Africa, you cannot do your masters degree until you complete a one year honors.
