Nigeria's quest for devt depends on the collective devt of her constituent states. We must practice true federalism however Most states in Nigeria are not viable most depend on federal allocation with no internally generated revenue  do you think states in each regions should be merged into one so we have 6 regions or should we create more states.
do you support Regions or states

Currently, I favor more states.

Region is the best option.

States are better, with regions we would not have success story like Akwa Ibom and Jigawa States. Just because some idioooootic State Governors have not done shiiiiiitttttte in their various states does not mean states are not better. They are better.

makes no difference. if governors are thieves, then premiers will be super thieves. No point.

The states should be left as they are, the federal govt should be left to co ordinate the states while each state is given full autonomy. True fiscal federalism thats all. Its true only 2 states are presently viable but with everybody controlling their resources and paying rent to the centre a lot of states will become viable. Oil, agriculture, minerals etc we can do it. There are states in the north that have the potential of earning serious cash through agriculture. It is possible.

Your reasoning is not logical. If you have one Premier thief with his commisioners numbering about 20-30, is that not better than say 6 Governors thieves with their total number of commisioners numbering close to 200! This is aside Personal Assistants and Special Advisers that would sum up to thousands.

We had more developments under the regional structure than under the states. The states structure has encouraged political jobbers and stratified administrative structures with poor efficiencies. For example, the South West would only need the Lagos State administrative structure to function as a region while the salaries and allowances saved from the Governors, commisioners, permanent secretaries, legislators etc would be chanelled towards development of the region. That overhead is always about 60% of the states budgets and that would be applied to fund capital projects.

Regions are better!!!!

our progress was not solely because of the regional structure but the parliamentary system. It meant less power ( unlike our presidential/governorship state where so much power is concentrated in the hands of one man.) concentration and decisions had to be argued out before they were taken. as for the cost-savings, no doubt there might be but its not guaranteed and depends only on the person in charge. stealing will still proceed.

China practices autonomous regional system and they are doing fine.must we continue with a system that serves as a conduit for corruption ?

do you think without federal allocation some states governors will be able to develop their states?

Collapse back to the Regions. This will drastically reduce our overheads.

Even with the allocation, some are like shiithole. In a regional system, ekiti state doesn't need to be the second poorest in Nigeria when lagos is earning so much revenue.

Collapse the states into the geo-political zones, but retain the local governments.
