Exploring new opportunities is good early in life. I commend him for such move. I suggest that as soon a he lands in Lagos, to attend Pwan Group Real estate business training at Surulere. He may be favoured in the business that he may not need salary job, again. Let him reach me on oazimo@yahoo.com, if my suggestion is of interest.

Lagos is the land of corporate job opportunities he won't regret it if he comes to Lagos.

BUT, when he arrives, so he won't be a financial burden to his friend, he will need to first grab any reasonable employment that can help him keep body and soul together (most likely Customer Service jobs contract or not) while he search for a better job opportunities. If he chooses to be dependent on his friend, he's bound to be surprised in the wrong way.

He should aim at jobs within Surulere, Yaba, Ikeja, Maryland, etc but no where beyond Ikoyi and Obalende on the Island. He will quickly get stressed out if he accepts jobs in V.I, Lekki and Ajah, but if the pay is worth it, he shouldn't go beyond V.I.

He should understand that Lagos doesn't sleep, so he might have to leave home 5:30am if his job location is far.

While staying with his friend, he should learn budgeting and stick to it.
Let's say he's working at Yaba and living in Surulere, his transportation expense is 800naira, and he buys food of 600, that's 1,500 daily, so he can budget 2k as his daily expense. Alternatively, if he and the friend can corporate, they can be contributing money to cook and take food to work, so he won't spend as much as 600naira to buy food outside.

In his budget, he should try to save let's say about 17k - 20k monthly so he can rent his own apartment. I mean a room in a face me I face you, for about 6k - 8k monthly, with total package of 184 - 220k (with agreement and commission). If he's seeking comfort, he will need to have at least 500k for total package of a room self contained (250k rent per annum

pls sir were in Lagos can one see a comfortable self con apartment 500k to 600k totally parkagee nice apartment, I work at ikoyi

Hello, A friend of mine wants to relocate to Lagos for better job opportunities. He is making efforts to resign from his current job and move to Lagos. One of his friends have agreed to give him accomodations in surulere pending when he gets a job...
He has Bsc in Economics and three years experience in sales in a major FMCG although it is contract...
He is changing job because of he is tired of the contract job and wants to look for direct employment in Lagos...
He is active in LinkedIn and other platforms...
Please what is your advice for him and if you have any possible offers,Please drop.
Thanks...

Tell him that a bird at hand is better than non...

He should get the job first, before embarking on any journey to his friends house in lagos...

I'm a Lagocian, lagos is not easy, once he stays in his friend's place for a month and he couldn't land himself a job, it would be problem for him and his friend...

So let him stay wherever he is and get himself a job in lagos, on his cv he should put his friend lagos address and positive things will happen...

Your friend only work to earn salary.

What did he learn from the FMCG job? I guess nothing.

See,man u guys should learn how to work and learn quickly on the job.

If u do this,u will become self independent and rest well in the midst of bustling and suffering in this country. Have entry and exit strategy always.

I am talking from experience.

The only thing that can make you relocate to Lagos, is if you have your enployment letter with you. Coming to look for a job that's not available is like going on a sucide mission.

Tell your friend (though I believe you are the one) that life in Lagos is different from
what he has been watching in Nollywood.

You see that thing that one boy in Nollywood will carry his bag and come to Lagos, after 2 years, he will go home with the latest SUV,
no dey for real life.

Your friend should better stay where he is and apply for jobs in Lagos. He should not relocate till he secures a job here.

Re: Relocation To Lagos For Better Job Opportunities by Lanruze: 12:36pm On Jun 29, 2023
Lagos State welcomes a person of value and you have to be sure you will bring value to the work space & corporate world were you intend exploring.

I was in your exact shoes some couple of years ago and I took the risk because I took almost five (5) years to work on myself with a clear career path which is similar to yours in sales.

If you are convinced within yourself and you have been acknowledged by your small circle and group that you have exceptional skills and talents, the three(3) year experience in FMCG sales is sufficient to the market. Lagos State corporate space is highly competitive with a lot of skills and talents from all over Nigeria and Africa as such you need to be extra talented to get that option of first refusal.

No other city in Nigeria gives more Job opportunities like Lagos State with its vast population and organised Central Business Districts(CBD) you will get a good job in Sales if you are strategic about the job-hunt.

1, Build an attractive resume and profile, highlighting your achievements , responsibilities, tasks and career objective you intend pursing. In Lagos most jobs placements and vacancies are done via job portals and electronically and hard-cover resumes are rarely in fashion.

2, Enhance your search optimisation on LinkedIn to be career specific there are a lot of sales jobs on Linkedin were you can get an interview invite and weigh your option before you resign from your current job. Your three (3) year experience will count here.

3, Ensure you get a Jobberman, Adexen, iRECRUTERSAfrica account and build an attractive profile before applying.

Ignore the naysayers and negative comments, a lot of talents in Nigeria have relocated abroad and there are more openings unlike before in the market place and Lagos State presents more opportunity than any other state in Nigeria based on its commercial, cosmopolitan and populous nature.

NB: The job hunt may take longer than a month just prepare your mind that your friend will change after sometime. And finally some of us are smart enough to know that you are the actual person looking for the advise and not your friend.

Cheers .

Try Abuja ph delta Uyo ogun Enugu they are land of opportunities too

Kindly remove UYO from there.

The city is full of poor indigenes and there's no companies in Uyo.

The city is a poor city and cost of living is higher than other cities I've seen in Nigeria. Its higher than Lagos and PH combined. The people of Uyo are a greedy and lazy people. They no l Iike hustling, but they want to eat.

Poverty is the cause of the spiritual wickedness in Uyo.

Yes! It's that easy in Lagos!

Whoever doesn't get employed on time in Lagos is either:

1. Not having the right soft skills or knowledge (and certificate)
2. Literate but not educated (study the difference)
3. Living far from the central (corporate) Business District which makes employers see them as a potential late comer.
4. Isn't tactical enough to land a job or scale an interview
Etc.

Lagos is the land of corporate opportunities.

I know what I'm saying

'You wants to relocate to Lagos'

A good move on a serious note.
You need to start working immediately you arrived safely in Lagos because the "standard of living' in Lagos is on high side

Getting a job at least to put food on your table will make your stay lively

Op! Save some money for yourself before leaving the house
Do not prey on your friends. fend for yourself

Go! !! !!!
Good luck
