SmartyPants:Elites? Where did he mention elites? You got the message wrong bro He's saying Nigerians should be patient and endure while they bargain with govt, that the sacrifice is collective for a better future and they are trying to ensure that whatever they get from govt will be collective as well. |
Re: Subsidy Removal: FG Saves ₦400 Billion In Four Weeks by nedekid: 10:52am On Jun 30, 2023 |
Until we get the benefit as Nigerians, bullcrap. It is like telling someone how fine and sweet a cake is without giving the person a taste of it. |
Re: Subsidy Removal: FG Saves ₦400 Billion In Four Weeks by SmartyPants(m): 10:59am On Jun 30, 2023 |
Kukutenla: We're saying almost the same thing except you missed the part where he mentions battling with the elites: “Whatever we are facing now is a collective sacrifice and there is hope that we will not allow the pressure for those who have eaten fat on the so called subsidy to frustrate our negotiations. Let Nigerians see whatever is happening as a collective sacrifice that all Nigerians will be happy.” What could that possibly mean in the context except that the reforms proposed are being resisted by some elites? Which then gives the statement the meaning I proposed. He is simply telling Nigerians that there is a sacrifice on the ground which is already in effect - so not news - but that they are working to make sure that the fat cats do not frustrate measures to ensure that the sacrifice is not felt by the masses alone. If anything, this is an anti-govt statement because who else would be representing the interests of those who have eaten fat? |

Kukutenla: Lol. A substantial part of the 2023 budget is being financed by loan. About 90% of our revenue already goes into debt securing so what’s your point again? 1 Like |

Re: Subsidy Removal: FG Saves ₦400 Billion In Four Weeks by Kukutenla: 11:35am On Jun 30, 2023 |
seunmsg:My point is that the figures you guys bandy about does not add up If we are reputed to earn about $30bn revenue every year and 90% goes into loan servicing, that's $27bn gone already. We are also reputed to spend another N4-6trn on fuel subsidy which is about $10bn. If we remove that from the $3bn we have, that is $7bn we borrowed to balance on subsidy payments. Who is borrowing us $7bn every year? Add to that the fact that FAAC shares an average of N700bn every month which accumulates to N8trn every year? Where is this particular amount coming from? Loans again? From where? Add also that Nigeria actually earned $45bn from oil in 2022. If 90% of our earnings go into debt and we earned $45bn from oil alone in 2022, how much is our debt that 45bn+x can't even clear it all. Last i checked, our total debt both domestic and foreign was about $66bn |

SmartyPants:Sorry but that part of the statement is pure hogwash I had to jump and pass it. Who are the fat cats? Can anyone name them? IPMAN is supporting subsidy removal. MOMAN is supporting subsidy removal. NNPC is saying subsidy removal is the way. Political office holders are all united on the removal of subsidies. Big industrialists like Dangote and Co are in support of subsidy removal. So who are the ghost fat cats who want to frustrate the idea of subsidy removal? I believe it is a siege mentality form of propaganda being used to make people think there are some people who are hoping to feed on the masses' despair to force subsidy back, and that labour is being careful not to play into their hands. This is a perfect ad hominiem to give as reason they can't go on strike or call for protest. I didn't even give that part a second looking. That's a fat lie. It is the masses who are uncomfortable with subsidy removal. The elites lose nothing. Rather, they are at NMDPRA fighting for import license so as to get a piece of the new pie. I believe you are smart enough to see through the fact that the present Labour is on the side of govt on this issue. The whole speech reeked of bunkum you'll expect to hear from a govt spokesperson to deceive gullible people that labour is on their side and negotiating to get them the best deal possible. That's being my point all along! |
