This tradition has it pros & cons & it seems the cons may outweigh the pros. We are losing experienced public servant out of ego, this tradition needs to be looked into & exceptions made where necessary.
sabotaging and looting experience that made Nigeria sunk trillions of Naira into military budget yet bandits, and terrorists are holding citizens hostage.

The military Generals hesitate to retire because there is an illegitimate president in our midst.

Is this how advanced countries regularly retire their experienced military officers because of the appointment of one person? What a waste of experience and resources.

VERY GOOD.
A CORPS OF RETIRED GENERALS IS UNNECESSARY. OTHERWISE THEY BECOME BUSYBODIES ALONG THE CORRIDORS OF POWER.
RETIRED GENERALS GET PENSIONS. THEY ALL KNOW THAT THEY CAN BE RECALLED ANYTIME AT THE DISCRETION AND POWER OF MR. PRESIDENT, TO SERVE THEIR MOTHER LANDS.
THE SHAKE UPS IN THE NAVY, I HOPE OGALLA IS AWARE AND IN AGREEMENT TO PREVENT CATASTROPHIC REVERSAL.

Nothing lasts forever especially power.
The old service chiefs and old military officers are now retirees to be waiting for pension money and gratuity.

Whoever didn't invest in business while in service or saved money to start business after service will know what it means to be a Pensioneer.

Your last sentence, is it business they didn't start while younger is what they want to start at their advanced age?

Let the just put the money into money market fund or fixed deposit or any other low risk investment to think of what to do with it later.

this doesn't seem right, but hope they can find a way to work it out !

I don't think other country following this method. a service chief is a political position.

the only officers that will complain are those involved in extra monetary rewarding activities like crude oil bunkering activities at the expense of the Nigerian state.

they should retire safely and join political parties to further whatever business plans they have for the future.

Nigeria and Nigerians should not be held to ransom by a military not fully subordinate to civilians political authorities.

They must have seen this coming…
But it’s still a veritable WASTE of national resources.

Nigeria should emulate nations like the US…
And simply promote the new CDS and service chiefs to the top service ranks.
