Doko's visa denial At 21, Doko Timilehin Timothy, a student of the University of Lagos, is a testament to the success of youth Scrabble having risen through the rungs of a steeply competitive terrain. Nigeria Scrabble firmament is one not sympathetic to age, sex, disability or ability. It is a tough place to grow. Doko has grown, nonetheless, and has emerged on the world scene. His chance to showcase his finesse, aside worldwide TV appearance, and numerous tournaments seemed to have been thwarted. He is not going to Vegas, venue of the WESPA world championship, despite having qualified to do so in a sparkling manner. He was denied a US visa. This is a setback we would have wished never happened. Doko is at the crest of youthfulness with a strong mind and brimming passion for the game. He is bright and sprightly. He is winning. Yet, he will not find space among his fellow bright minds on the worldstage because of a visa denial. It is a blow too much to take. Doko is still a university student. He has a glittering universe ahead of him. He is not likely to abscond: not a chance in the world. This scenario likens to Syed Ismad Alli or Moiz Ulla Baig being denied visas to the world championships where they shone like a thousand galaxies. He has the chance to win it. Doko is a citizen of the world. He should be allowed to shine where his fellow top players have the chance to glow effervescently. We wish this denial can be revisited. We all do. https://sportgister.com.ng/nigerias-strongest-prospect-to-scrabble-world-championship-doko-denied-visa-by-us-embassy/

What a loss this would be to Nigeria. The chap is a prodigy, no doubt. I hope the current gale of opinions will cause a reversal of this decision. One good thing is, Scrabble is huge phenomenon in Nigeria. A very huge one. Can this thread make front-page please? 1 Like |
