Apple unveiled iOS 17 during the recent WWDC event, announcing that the significant software update will be available to iPhone XS/XR and newer models later this year. However, a few of the most anticipated iOS 17 features will not be immediately accessible to users. This article highlights three of these delayed features and discusses their expected arrival in subsequent updates.

The Journal App

Apple plans to introduce the Journal app in later iterations of iOS 17, transforming iPhones into personal memory diaries. This innovative application utilizes on-device machine learning to provide personalized suggestions and prompts, encouraging users to document their thoughts based on recent photos, workouts, visited places, and more. Journal entries will synchronize with iCloud, ensuring accessibility across multiple Apple devices. Furthermore, the app allows users to lock and bookmark important entries for convenience and security.

Collaborative Playlists in Apple Music

A later iteration of iOS 17 will introduce collaborative playlists to Apple Music, a feature that has long been available on rival platform Spotify. This functionality enables users to invite friends to join their Apple Music playlists, granting them the ability to add or remove songs, rearrange the tracklist, and express their reactions using emojis. While Apple has stated that collaborative playlists will be available “later this year,” there is a possibility of their inclusion in iOS 17.1.

AirDrop File Transfers Over the Internet:

iOS 17 will enhance AirDrop with NameDrop, enabling users to share contact information by tapping iPhones. However, sharing AirDrop files over the internet will be available in iOS 17.1 or later updates. Currently, AirDrop transfers fail when devices are far apart, but with iOS 17, file transfers can continue if both parties are signed into iCloud, improving Apple’s Bluetooth service.
