Super Eagles and Nottingham Forest striker, Taiwo Awoniyi has paid a courtesy visit to the Kwara State Governor, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRasaq, Newspremises reports.

Governor AbdulRahman on Thursday night, July 6, hosted the Nottingham Forest star in the Government House where he saluted the 25-year-old for his performances.

Awoniyi was the main man for the Forest last season, scoring 10 goals and helping them escape relegation in what was seen to be a tough campaign for them.

It was a remarkable debut season for the former Liverpool player in the Premier League as he won the hearts of virtually all Forest supporters.


The former Union Berlin striker was also among the Super Eagles players who beat Sierra Leone 3-2 to qualify for the 2023 African Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast.

Awoniyi has been wanting to see the Kwara State Governor since 2020 before he got the chance.

According to the post the governor shared on his official Twitter page, he was spotted receiving a jersey from Awoniyi.

In an exclusive interview with Sports Brief, Awoniyi expressed his excitement to have finally meet with Governor Abdulrahman .

”Finally, it was nice talking with him and I must confess that he is a good man who wants the best for the State and the nation. He urged me to score 20 goals in the coming EPL season and I have promised him to do my best.”
