My course mates and seniors who were there said the fuel got exhausted, and the rider left them in the middle of the turbulent waters to get some, in a leaking boat which sank faster than expected.

Same had happened to some of my seniors the day before, but they were lucky to be close to the shore already; so they paddled with hands and slippers.
