Tony Elumelu was in London invitation by King Charles III of the United Kingdom and U.S. President Biden to attend the Climate Finance Mobilization Forum in London, someday at mobilising a new generation of catalytic capital in the fight against climate change.

He represented Africa and presented our agenda, “the urgency for action on Climate Change; the threat to our lives and livelihoods; that Africa must lead the world in driving environmental sustainability. We can no longer be a passive player in an issue that is so central to our present and future.”

This Forum convened a group of global leading philanthropies, companies, and investors. Representing the African Private Sector, he emphasised the urgency for action on Climate Change – highlighting its profound impact on our lives and livelihoods.
Africa, as a continent, must lead the world in driving environmental sustainability and no longer remain a passive player in this critical issue. We firmly believe that Africa deserves a voice at the table. Addressing the inequalities that persist between Africa and the rest of the world, our Chairman stressed the need for a just, fair, equal, and realistic strategy. While prioritising a mix of traditional and renewable energy sources, we must not overlook Africa’s current energy deficit. A Net Zero conversation that fails to acknowledge our continent’s present reality would do more harm than good.
The timing of the climate financing dialogue could not be more significant. Recent trends indicate a decline in renewable energy investments in emerging and developing economies. Africa’s green revolution demands immediate and substantial funding—resources beyond what African governments and the private sector can provide alone. Despite contributing the least to climate change, Africa continues to bear a disproportionate burden of its consequences.
