With the wind speed and protracted power shortage in Lagos, has anyone ever thought of turning the beach to a windmill farm?

That is a visionary concept, Sijen, and the average prevailing wind velocities along the Lagos coastline would probably be the main determinant as to the viability of wind turbine installations for that particular area.

The city of Palm Springs, California derives a large percentage of its electrical energy needs from the windmill arrays that occupy many of the hills and canyons surrounding town, while similar wind turbine farms are proliferating in shallow waters along Britain's southern coastlines, providing increasing independence from the national electricity grid in the towns served by these quiet, efficient and non-polluting electrical power generation systems.

Renewable alternative energy sources are bound to gain even more mainstream acceptance in the coming years as the geo-political and environmental costs of running societies on fossil fuels begin to outweigh the benefits of those traditional energy sources.
