Seun Nairaland is loosing value. I think its time to monetize Nairaland.
Let people be paid for their contents. Using number of viewings and comments as a yardstick.

My opinion though

brain54:

It’s true NL has gotten more boring…

But I don’t blame the mods… if they are interesting contents the mods will put them on FP( the mods and seun actually want good content… it drives traffic and NL cannot survive without traffic)

When they are no contents and mods have to do their job then you will definitely see stale contents from years back hit FP.

Sometimes I go through different sections and all I see are shit.Ty threads.

If I was a mod I will definitely have a hard time picking which of the less shit.Ty content to move to FP.

People are creating less interesting contents on the forum and something as you observed is the cause.

But I don’t think it’s the fault of mods!

The mods, both past and present, and seun are 100% responsible for what's happening to nl.

In terms of ethnic bigotry, seun and his mods failed to checkmate it early enough to the point that it worsened trust amongst nigerians and destroyed the spirit of cooperation... This pushed some people away who may have been contributing greatly to the forum cos they just want to avoid the toxicity of nl...

In terms of nl rules, seun and his mods fail woefully to enforce the rules, and sometimes the mods are unashamedly biased that it's surprising, shocking and disgusting. This has driven some people away from nl and made many more avoid posting valuable contributions here.

Additionally, seun and his mods do not reward creation of valuable content. Go and study Reddit and Quora to understand what I mean. They'd rather push a dry topic of a crossdresser showing his buttocks which will later degenerate into ethnic bashings to front page than push nigeria focused topics discussing how a particular problem is solved or one's experience on something. With time, this will drive away those who make valuable contributions on the forum because their effort is like a waste.

The problem is further compounded by the fact that the new generation (15-23) joining nl now are mostly very corrupted products of Nigerian society... No good education, no good moral upbringing, no desire to learn positive progressive things... This group are the ones mostly detailing threads with tribal slurs, thereby driving away valuable contributors who are not even being rewards.... while they in turn cannot even contribute positively to the forum because they lack good education, moral upbringing, desire to learn new things, etc.

I started visiting nl over a decade ago and joined during my nysc... I won an essay competition in my first year of joining which motivated me to give back to the community by giving solution oriented comments to enquiries from members, etc... 3 years down the line and I started observing the negative trend on nl, especially after Buhari came in... Seun and his mods were advised several times but their solutions did nothing to solve the problem except aggravate it.

Now we have gotten to this shithole stage where looking for revenue has pushed the owner to give away freedom and anonymity of users to Google.

I rest my case. Like I said, seun no dey hear word. If I had his IT skills, nl will be only sm site majority of Nigerians with access to internet visit

Perhaps, ever since lalasticlara resigned or was sacked as a mod, the frontage is a complete mess.

Blame the USELESS Tinubu/APC administration. embarassed sad

The Hunger in the land touch everybody. E no favour anybody and him family. 😒😒

Lorddominic:
Blame all the mods of nairaland including the founder who keeps promoting ethno-tribal divisions on this forum

psucc:
Why blame the Mods when the owner is there?

NL is not immune to the shege that's reigning supreme in Nigeria. If you doubt, ask gala and Lacasera.

kalufelix:
Nairaland is a lazy something...literally wakes up from sleep around 10am daily...over used posts remain on the front page for 48hours and becomes stale...posts from years back miracolously make it to the frontpage when it must have outlived its usefulness and the original poster might have gone 6ft. below...i have been on nairaland for many years with close to 10000likes...in all these years i never see any tangible upgrade walai..

Emperormartin:

Perhaps, the downfall of this platform is nigh

Penguin2:
I think it’s just a policy.

Seems the management decided that new posts should start moving to front page as from 8am rather than the previous 4am, 5am, 6am, in the past.

Or maybe the crop of MODs in charge now are less passionate about the job and treat Nairaland moderation as a job they resume at 8am unlike when Lalasticlala was here who doesn’t mind staying awake till 3am and waking up at 6am to move posts to FP.

In my experience managing staffs, there’s nothing as bad as having employees who cannot move an inch beyond their job description. Their employment contract says they will be closing work at 4pm, a minute after 4pm there are already at the gate no matter the loads of work left in the office.

needs to recruit moderators who will treat Nairaland like a passion rather than a job they are employed to do.

LandMann:
Seun no dey hear word o. Advice him from now till 2030, he's gonna pay deaf ear... He's refusing to swim with the tide by listening to valuable feedback from users, he'll definitely sink at the appropriate time, and then he'll start blaming Nigeria.

Nl is already sinking, that is why he had to run to get AdSense from Google. Now Google will have unfettered access to spy on his site by collecting valuable data that they'll resell

I have since limited creating of meaningful threads or giving free valuable contributions on nl cos the owner is not serious about improving the forum.

Khd95:
Of what use when the threads are going to be filled with tribal bigots

Gone are the days when thesourcers used to give us educating threads back to back, when there used to be debates on nairaland, , when intelligent and smart people make brilliant inputs to threads before they hit front page, this days just two comments in threads and it’s already in front page, these two comments booked spaces to spew nonsense later on

Jostoman:
Nairaland don change. Nairaland is gradually turning into Apc forum.

It has a modern look and better interface. It is regularly updated and also has a forum section.

My suggestion is that reasonable Gen Zs should be employed to run the platform. Because,2006-2013 we were their age bracket and we did lots of things on this platform by educating ourselves without insults. Getting first time information about latest free browsing data etc.

The older we get the more responsibility we will have. When I was younger I could sit down and watch 5 movie in a day, but recently I can't even watch film for 30 minutes without feeling sleepy.

Was this same account you were using to do many things on Nairaland between 2006-2013?

Seun now even has to add ads from google to survive.

Nairaland now only has junk content especially from the ashawos on the platform form.

I wonder why you would…

Insult a man for running his business the way he pleases.

The way he feels would put food on his table.

Never judge a business man until you walk a mile in his shoes.

Maybe you love NL more than the owner sha!

Well I respect your opinion…

You are entitled to it. In my opinion though I think NL is a mini reflection of the society we find ourselves in.

A mod pushing a cross dresser thread to front page is so because that’s what will generate views. You put an educative thread on FP and you get 100 views and maybe 3 pages of contribution and then you push a bob risky thread and it generates 100k views and reaches like 150 pages of comments and contributions.

Be sincere if you were a business man which would you rather push to FP- knowing that your business is based on traffic generated.

It’s not a question of morality or owing society to educate them. NL owes society nothing. It’s simply a question of putting out what sells for you to generate income.

The older generation of NL that made good threads are simply older and have moved on with family and other responsibilities to handle that take away their time. Hence hardly have time to come online to make meaningful threads.

Before you criticize NL remember that this is a new generation of youths who hardly have time to create quality contents- it even reflects on the other socials- the tik tok, instagram etc. How many quality contents are on those sites?

NL has her faults and issues but in general I think NL is a reflection of the society.

As they say garbage in and garbage out- exactly what’s happening to NL.

It’s not about the user interface- or how pretty and attractive the site looks. That can only draw people’s attention for a while until they get bored and move on to other pretty looking sites.

If the mentality is poor then NL remain stagnant!
