As a beginner, don't start with 200...that's too risky.

Meet people doing poultry in your area and familiarise with them. They'll guide and lecture you on the business.

Note; poultry business is time consuming, it's not something you leave for someone to help you manage. For a start, you must be fully involved.

What breed are you starting wey with? Is it Cockrell or Broiler?

I once rare 15 Cockrell and I was able to sell them during 2020 Easter celebration..

4 weeks later I went and about 30 Cockrell.. Thinking I would be able to feed them and make them grow well.... A week after buying the 30 chicks, they started dying.
When I noticed it was a wide spread disease, I ran to the man I bought the birds from.

He told me I was supposed to call him quickly so that the birds would be given some drugs. It brought alot of pain to my heart.
Long and short of the story, only 2 birds survive out of all the 30 chicks.

Poultry is a great business when disease are nipped in the bud early. 200 birds is too much for a beginner like you to start.
Start with 20 birds and see if you can cope with the feeding and treatment.

No. Layers are to problematic and unpredictable while marketing broilers on time and at good price is almost impossible.

200birds = 560k expense with 3.2 to 3.5kg per bird at 6weeks with 8 mortalities as an experienced farmer
Profit 130 to 250k after 2months


200birds = 670k expenses with 3.2 to 3.5kg per bird at 6weeks with 25mortalities as a newbie with resilience
Profit 50 - 80k

200birds = 550 to 600k expense at 8weeks with 70-120 mortalities as newbie

Loss 150-250k


200birds = 350 to 400k expenses at 6weeks with 150 mortalities as correct newbie
Loss 300-350k due to zero buyer


Experience differs but will be close to one of these

You need a first hand learning experience on what goes in and out of poultry

You see that bird called BROILER is the most fragile bird to keep

They are not as strong as others and just ordinary heat, you will wake up one day and see all of them stone dead

I will prefer you go in for turkey too, the local one has the ability to work with stand all weather

They grow impressively too and they consume the same amount of food like other birds

Then Noilers are ok and still better than broilers

You are very mistaken ooo if you think 500 k will do that for you..

You will need about a million for the 200 birds and the feed plus drugs and vaccination for the period of about 5 months before they get to lay eggs

What of the cost of the battery cage and other logistics?

Yes and my advise is don't go into poultry if you Re notreally ready.

Poultry is not a get rich quick business. It takes a lot of season of commitment and failures.

With your 500k, you can look for a good location and venture into sales of poultry feed.

Poultry is not for the faint hearted and it requires alot of capital back up.

Please don't borrow or do joint business on poultry as a novice it doesn't end well.

Poultry is very profitable overtime but you must know it's onions.
