Igbo as a tribe is pronounced as IBO. The "G" is silenced.

Igbo as a substance is actually pronounced with the "G".

Not in that light. "Olodo" literally mean "one who possess mortar"

I was at the computer village, Ikeja on Saturday and on my way out through Lagos plaza, the whole road was flooded. Even Lagos is a mess when it rains. APC is boasting of beautifying Lagos but not development. Nigerian govt should do something fast and not their usual gra gta way

Don't mind them. They've forgotten quickly how Igbo is weed!

BTW, just so our weed head brothers know, olodo has nothing to do with your shallow grasp of the Yoruba language! It's in line with mortar and pestle

The g in Igbo is not silent tho

There's nothing like ibo, it's Igbo ( the g is not an independent letter, it is GB)

I-gb-o

Igbo and Igbo(ganja) have different pronunciations

Some info for people who don't have Information.

1. The road is under Construction (Howbeit, the Governor gave the road to 'Carpenters' instead of Engineers).

2. The State is currently a PDP state and the Governor is una beloved GSM.

3. The 'Carpenter' caused the Flooding by blocking the channel the water was supposed to pass through because of their ongoing construction.

4. The Road will soon be cut away by the flood and people coming from Iwo will have to drop and enter cab to Iwo road.

5. Those who want to drive through may have to go through Olorunda. (Unfortunately, that one too is under construction but I don't know maybe it's an Engineer or Carpenter that's handling it.

NB: GSM is a media Governor, unfortunately His second Tenure is already exposing Him. All His media gurus should be ready for more.

Every rainy season in nigeria same story undecided
Can't the government just use that period of dry season to correct all these anomalies?

In many cases, floods like this aren't a result of govt negligence. When one week's worth of rain falls in a day or two, it leads to flooding because all that water has nowhere to go immediately

Nigeria is a useless country with useless and lazy citizens. once you understand this you will be at peace

Every rainy flood everywhere, people's home submerged just about every year.

Yet the people can't help themselves, LGA can't help, state Govt can't Help and Fed Govt can't help.

Next year same issue they will start crying.

What a useless nation with clueless people, clueless leaders

Drainage system is an expensive project. I once worked with our community to fix a 30yr flooding issue with underground pipes affecting like 10 houses in one row...cost ...over $100,000 = N80m so most of these drainage system in Nigeria ought to be piped with PVC under the street so water can drain into them and it can carry the rain to central points....but PVC are so expensive, so we go with gutters

The problem...gutters fail...gully erosion can sweep sand under gutters and collapse them. Fed Govt gave some states funding which they are using to do concrete barriers...though great move but they can still collapse compare to PVC pipes which can last decades.

The issue is very complicated. Govt has maps of all these things....but don't want to demolish and create more problems. In leadership, every decision has unintended consequences...and cost will be a factor. If a Governor spends 4yrs fixing drainage due to cost..will he be reelected? There in lies the problem with good governance and political calculations

Olódó- 'The owner of mortar'
Olódo- 'A dumb person'

Yorùbá is a tonal language just like many other African languages; except fulfulde and swahili.

Hence, some words in yorùbá Language have the same spelling but the TONE will differentiate those words.

I think the writer should've assigned tone on that word; 'Olódó' to avoid confusion.

Another Ex. In Yorùbá

Igbá- 'Calabash'

Ìgbà- 'Time/season'

Igba- - 'Two Hundred'

Ìgbá - 'Garden Egg'
