This is FALSE. Marriage gives everyone pride. Don't let Nairaland boys deceive you. At a certain point in a man's life, the society expects him to grow, because, according to the Bible and other teachings, we are in this world to multiply.

One major way you show that you are now grown and responsible is when you have a wife and children. At that point, you begin to earn respect from people. There's a Yoruba saying that a man is not responsible until he's married. A man who is 50 and single has no respect among his mates.

On the issue though, it's more of an African trademark than it is universal. Women out there don't exactly prioritise marriage. The black race just has a way of making an unmarried woman who's 30 plus to seem like a hopeless failure, same way it demonises a struggling man who's 40 plus.
