Press Briefing on NIGER DELTA STUDENTS UNION GOVERNMENT Bye Election Results

**Date: 28th July 2023**

Good afternoon, esteemed members of the press, stakeholders, students of Niger Delta, and the general public. We are gathered here today to announce the outcome of the Bye Election conducted by the NIDSUG Electoral Commission (NIDSIEC) for the office of the National President.

The Bye Election took place on Tuesday, 25th July 2023, at Hall 1, Captain Elechi Amadi Polytechnic, Port Harcourt. The election was necessitated by a tie in the vote during the previous NIDSUG general elections held on 8th July 2023 at the Rivers State University.

I am Pst. Gospel Tanam, the Chairman of NIDSIEC, and I stand before you with great joy to report that the election process was conducted freely, fairly, and credibly. All necessary consultations were made, and we ensured justice was served in the electioneering process.

The two candidates who contested in the Bye Election for the office of the National President were:
1) Comr. Ayemobuwa Idowu Hero
2) Comr. Ogunseri Uyiosasere Scott

The Bye Election took place with one delegate drawn from each of the nine states of the Niger Delta present and voting. After the election, which was observed by student leaders, stakeholders, the Dean of Students Affairs of CEAPOLY, and security agencies, we have the following results:

- Comr. Ayemobuwa Idowu Hero received 2 votes.
- Comr. Ogunseri Uyiosasere Scott received 7 votes.

Therefore, Comr. Ogunseri Uyiosasere Scott emerged as the winner of the election with a clear majority of votes.

Comr. Scott expressed his gratitude for the support and trust placed in his mandate and promised to work towards changing the narrative of the union positively. He called upon all those who contested and lost in the election to join hands with his administration in taking the Niger Delta Students Union Government to greater heights.

Once again, we extend our warmest congratulations to Comr. Ogunseri Uyiosasere Scott on his victory in the Bye Election for the office of the National President. We also thank all Niger Delta students, stakeholders, life members of the union, and the general public for their participation and support throughout this electoral process.
